Lucas Murphy 15th Starter of 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers

NORTH EASTON, MA      JANUARY 11, 2011:   Lucas Murphy will be the 15th Ultra4 car off the line at the 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers February 11, 2011.  Lucas Murphy qualified for the 2011 King of the Hammers at the Rausch Creek Qualifier in May, raced and won the Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch International Endurance Race, placed 4th overall in the International Endurance Series (IEC) and won the RCRocs Rock Race Series in 2010.

Lucas Murphy, in his home built New England trail rig, will drive 3,200 miles and take on the King of the Hammers for the second year in a row.  “I think starting 15th is pretty awesome.  It doesn’t really matter at the end, but it is nice not to have all the traffic out in front of you,” said Murphy.  The Murphy’s Law Motorsports team has been focused on going faster, not necessarily changing or rebuilding last years competitive rig.  “We have been focused on motor performance on the dyno and tuning in the Fox Shox suspension.  We feel those are the two things that will help us go faster.”

Murphy qualified for the 2010 Griffin King of the Hammers at the Rausch Creek Qualifier in 2009.  He drew the 85th starting position, and was excited to even be on the lakebed.  “We made the trip all the way from the Massachusetts to compete in the King of the Hammers without ever running any of the west coast rocks!” remembers Murphy.  “We pre-ran a lot in the rig and come race day we passed something like 45 cars in the first 30 miles.  It was awesome!”  As night fell on Hammertown, the Murphy’s Law Motorsports team crossed the finish line and took the checker flag 23rd, even after loosing about 90 minutes caused by a broken steering knuckle.

“I am just a lucky guy to have such great friends, family and sponsors.  I am really proud to have been able to qualify for King of the Hammers and am looking forward to another competitive year.”  The entire Murphy’s Law Motorsports team is ecstatic about coming to the west coast and competing in the biggest race of the year.

About Lucas Murphy: Lucas Murphy grew up in Martha’s Vineyard as the youngest of 9.  At the ripe age of 10, he started working for his Father repairing boats and doing salvage work in the family yard of over 100 vehicles.  He started welding at 14, and would complete engine, axle and transmission swaps without hesitation.  He got into 4wheeling as soon as he could legally drive on the beaches of the Vineyard, but didn’t take a true wheeling trip until 2006 after meeting some people online.  In 2008, he built his current rig from scratch and the day he got his rig running was the day before his son Tracy James (TJ) was born.  Murphy’s Law Motorsports was started with wife Trish and co-driver Jon Hastie on board.  They have since competed in the King of the Hammers, RCRocks, Deep Woods Extreme Rock Crawl, Boulder Bash and various off-road trail rides. http://www.murphyslawmotorsports.com
