Rob MacCachren is coming into this weekend’s Tecate SCORE Baja 500 with a confidence that some could mistake for arrogance, but only for those who don’t know Rob MacCachren. “Rob Mac” is quiet and unassuming off the race course, but once he puts his Impact by MasterCraft Safety helmet on he is all business. Such was the case at the season opening event for the 2011 TRAXXAS The Off-Road Championship (TORC) short course racing series in RedBud, Michigan.
Qualifying at RedBud was canceled due to inclimate weather, and MacCachren drew the second starting position for Sunday’s race. Rob was able to jump out to an early lead in his new No. 21 Pro 2WD RAM truck for the flag-to-flag win and also earned the Oakley Bomb Award for fastest lap of the race. “Driving an 800 horsepower rear wheel drive truck is enough of a challenge when it is dry!” MacCachren joked after the race.
“Fortunately my BFGoodrich tires hooked up and allowed me to stay out front.” The next TRAXXAS TORC race will be at the legendary Crandon International Raceway on June 18th and 19th. Crandon is a special place to many in the racing community, but none more so than Rob MacCachren. It is here that MacCachren won three consecutive Borg-Warner Championships and three Governor’s Cup Championships, all achieved on BFGoodrich tires.
Now MacCachren trades mud for dust as he pilots in the No. 20 Jimco ROCKSTAR Energy / MasterCraft Safety SCORE Trophy Truck for the 43rd annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 this weekend. MacCachren has already won the MasterCraft Safety SCORE San Felipe 250 this season and currently sits in second in series points, just one point behind leader Jesse Jones. MacCachren starts ninth in the premier SCORE Trophy Truck class, while teammate Robbie Pierce (shown below) starts twelfth in the No. 30 Jimco ROCKSTAR Energy / Impact by MasterCraft Safety Trophy Truck. Pierce hopes to overcome the issues that plagued him earlier in the season and build upon his sixth place series standing in last year’s SCORE championship.
