Final Regular Season Dirt Riot Race Leads Into Nationals on a High Note

Class Winners: Pro 4400 4×4 – Bill Baird  ;  Pro 4500 – Jay Callaway  ;  Mod Trail – Kenn Hite  ;  Stock Trail – Travis Wilson  ;  UTV Class – Michael Stewart

Dirt Riot, Durhamtown PlantationPLACERVILLE, CA  SEPTEMBER 4, 2013:  The final Dirt Riot Southeast Series race, and regular 2013 season race, was held last weekend at the Durhamtown Plantation in Union Point, Georgia.  “Opening up the Southeast series was a great idea and we look forward to growing this regional series again next year.  I have to start with how awesome a facility Durhamtown Plantation is.  There was lots to do on the grounds including motocross, ATV riding, UTV and 4×4 trails, a restaurant, laundromat, cabins and RV spaces and they even hosted a band for after the Saturday race,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events.  “As for racing, there is never a lack of entertainment at a Dirt Riot race.  We were very excited to have Bill Baird bring his entire shop staff to cheer him on with his brand new car, and we had many others come over from the Central series to race.”

The course that was 5 miles of varying terrain had high speed sections, moto-jumps, woods, twisty turns, rock creeks and a GP style track.  The Pro 4400 4×4 class winner Bill Baird completed 11 laps on this rigorous course in two hours.  Jeff McCullough from AllSouth Autosports had transmission issues, but was able to complete one lap in order to gain enough points to take the Southeast Pro 4400 4×4 series championship!  Jay Callaway would take first in the Pro 4500 4×4 class.

Father and son, Kenn Hite and Kevin Hite, competed against each other in the Mod Trail class with Dad Kenn taking the win completing 9 laps in the two hour endurance race.

The Stock Class was the big event at this race including the addition of two cars that normally race in the Central Series: Jason Davis and Duane Garretson.  They both ended their day early with mechanical issues, Jason broke his front ring and pinion; Duane had some issues that he overcame in the first lap, then he rolled and caught on fire.  In another classic act of Dirt Riot sportsmanship, the race leader, Travis Wilson of Wilsons Performance, stopped and put the fire out and made sure both the driver and co-driver were ok before moving on and winning the race!  Only two minutes behind was second place Scott Prince, and also with 10 laps was third place Erik Petersen.  Roger King would finish 4th with Duane Garretson in 5th, Jason Davis in 6th and Brian Gray completed a lap to finish 7th.

The UTV Class has been extremely successful across the country this year.  For the first time in the Southeast series, the UTV class fleshed out for a real race.  Wesley Gryner and Cody Keller, both of Arkansas made the long travel for the race.  Kenneth Wood came out in a single seat UTV with a turbo, he ended up being the first out of the race.  Cody placed 5th; Wesley placed 4th, the top three were Peter Basler of Blue Torch Fab in third; Michael Gatto in 2nd by less than 30 seconds, and having the fastest lap of the day in all classes was Michael Stewart in 1st.

This was the third and final Southeast Regional Dirt Riot race for 2013. The series points are posted at http://www.werocklive.com/2013/dirt-riot-season-points-standings-2.
