jpeg 220x174 King of the Motos Returns in 2013 as the Toughest Extreme Enduro in the U.S.August 20, 2012 (Temecula, CA) – Touted as the toughest extreme enduro in the United States, King of the Motos, held in conjunction with King of the Hammers announced details of the 2013 event and has officially opened pre-registration.

The “proof of concept” inaugural race in 2012 race was a self supported, twenty-one person invitational debuting in front of 30,000 spectators. Only six of twenty-one racers finished the brutal 85-mile course, adding to the mystique and reputation of the competition. Trials champion, Graham Jarvis from Great Britain won the race which combined punishing boulder climbs and descents linked with high-speed desert racing.

The 2013 race will expand in length from the previous 85-mile course, passing through many of the infamous rock climbs and descents that have made the Hammers area so famous within the off-road scene. The race will keep the spirit of the “one rider, one bike” format with no outside assistance, even in pits. Read More→

e1325538366 Darren Skilton Finishes One Second Behind Nasser Al Attiyah On First Stage of Dakar RallyDakar Rally has typically started with WRC-style gravel roads since moving to South America, but this year the ASO course designers headed straight for the coastal dunes at Necochea for a 57 kilometer special stage to start the 2012 rally.  Darren Skilton finished just one second behind 2010 champion Nasser Al-Attiyah and 9:51 behind the lead car when the times were tallied.  “To be honest the size of the dunes took me by surprise,” Skilton admitted.  “Skyler (Gambrell- Skilton’s navigator) and I just aired down the General Grabbers and had no problems staying on top of the sand.”  Then with the long liaison Skilton aired the Grabbers back up and made his way to Santa Rosa de la Pampa in comfort. Rock-crawling a bone stock Kawasaki Teryx in Moab, Utah

By Jeff Knoll

Jeff Knoll Steel Bender 199x300 Out of the Box, and into the RocksWhile most may not feel the need to tackle trails rated in a manner that scares away the average Jeep owner, when I was invited to join a group of dedicated UTV owners for a weeklong trip in Moab, I nearly jumped at the chance. One catch, I would be the only person in the group piloting a bone stock machine.

After over 10 years in the Rocksports Industry as co-founder of the Ultra4 Series and King of the Hammers, I felt it was possible the group wanted the rock crawler to have one hand tied behind his back. I will openly admit, I was a bit concerned about my ability to pilot a stock machine on trails I have driven a fully built buggy on in the past. Names like Steel Bender, Cliff Hanger, Green Day, and Helldorado may seem nearly impassable by name, but the scenic beauty that surrounds the town of Moab is best seen from some of the more ominous sounding trails. 2011 Superlift ORV Park Schedule

2011 Superlift ORV Park Events Schedule

Off-roading in Hot Springs began in the late 1970′s with people ‘wheeling on a multitude of timber company logging roads, and utility company right-of-ways. Over the years this “unofficial trail system” grew into an impressive array of trails. It was great while it lasted… in 1999 the landowners closed access to the area and put the property up for sale.

In 2001, a group of off-road businessmen, enthusiasts and conservationists purchased the acreage with the intent of developing the nation’s premiere off-roading destination, while preserving the land’s natural beauty.

The Park includes the majority of the original trail system, and new trails and obstacles with varying degrees of difficulty are continuously being built on every terrain type imaginable — hill climbs (both “finesse” and “horsepower required” types), mud pits, rock gardens, water crossings, you name it. All trails are mapped and posted with difficulty ratings for the various vehicle types, so you always know your location, and what to expect terrain-wise. Read More→
