FROM EROCC EVENT #2 |
JELLICO,
TN Kenneth Wade Shupe was determined to come
back to the second ERoCC event of the year to show that his April
unlimited division win was no fluke. The rock jockey tore up the
course, turning in a two day total of 13 points, nearly cutting
his April score in half, and taking top honors at the June event.
Behind Shupe in second place was Chris Durham, who kept the pressure
on Shupe for most of the event. Rounding out the top three in the
Unlimited division was ERoCC new-comer, Troy Myers. Myers suffered
a broken axle on the first obstacle of the day, but quickly repaired
it and was ready to go on his second obstacle that he had to face.
In
the Legend class Jack Bettio took first, followed by Michael Smythe,
who applied regular doses of go-go pedal to his '68 Landcruiser
to keep the competition fierce between himself and Bettio. After
the dust cleared from the last obstacle, Bettio had only topped
Smythe by a total of 22 points, with Smythe vowing to get him at
the next event. Stacy Walker finished 3rd in the Legends class.
The
competition was held June 21st - 23rd, 2002 in Jellico, TN. The
two day total for attendance was 1,626 fans, who got one awesome
show of rockcrawling prowess by all the competitiors involved.
One
more regular season qualifying event is to be held July 26 - 28,
2000. The finals are September 6-8, 2002.
