Over the last several months, SMA, Inc. has been collaborating with GM engineers to finalize a design and complete testing prior to an approval for factory installation. The factory unit is based on SMA’s original Swing-Away? Tire Carrier; which is currently available for purchase through authorized SMA dealers. To date, the SMA design has been subjected to a rigorous testing program that has included four, post-shaker tests intended to simulate 150,000 miles of diverse driving conditions; computer simulated crash testing; a live, rear-bearer crash test; and numerous component level tests to ensure both product safety and longevity. As the final
stages of testing and validation ensue, SMA, Inc. remains committed
