Newcomer
Ken Blume took top honors in the Unlimited division, while
local competitor Dennis Stacey took first in the Legends
division at the first Eastern Rock Crawling Championship
(ERoCC) event of the 2003 season.
Ken
Blume jumped off to a Day 1 lead on Saturday that proved
to be too much to handle for the ERoCC regulars of Ken Shupe
& Troy Myers. Shupe finished second for the day, and
another new comer, Charlie Melchner, rounded out the top
3.
In the
Legends division, Chris Sonen of Team Shupe was in first
place after Day 1, but a remarkable Day 2 showing from Dennis
Stacy was too much for Sonen to hold back. Stacey sliced
and diced the obstacles, which propelled him into the winners
circle by a mere 21 points. Sonen was able to hold onto
second spot, and Adrian Dognin grabbed the third position.
Tire
manufacturer BFGoodrich was on-hand to assist the drivers
with mechanical failures and tire swaps. The workers of
BFGoodrich were all smiles as the Top 7 competitors to the
podium in the Unlimited division were all running BFGoodrich
rubber on their competition vehicles.
April
was the first event of a four event series which will conclude
on August 16 in Jellico, TN. The next event, also scheduled
for Jellico, TN, will be held on June 28, followed by a
July 26th event in Attica, Indiana at The Badlands Offroad
Park. Competitors take their best two finishes of the first
three events, and couple that with their finish in the August
event for their series standing. August event points are
double weighted, making placement in the August event the
most crucial of the year.
