I would try to avoid 9/16 bolts since they aren't common and not used in ag so not going to find in many stores if needed. If I recall 9/16 became popular because that is what TJ control arms used and carried over into mainstream use just like the 2-5/8" width rod end/joint size.
I shimmed the two I built until I got slight resistance spinning by hand similar to setting pinion preload on a differential gear setup. At the end of the day would be same as factory dana 300 specs like Woody said.
Bought it on ebay here:

Finally got around to installing my fire port in the dash. Its designed for an inboard boat and the idea could jam the element extinguisher thru it in case of an engine fire. It is possitions right behind the fuel rail fitting and near my rear steer hydraulic fittings. Also found a spot in the...
Did some winterization maintenance and repairs today. The brake cantilever mount started to bend while at Sand Hollow and causing some resistance. Straightened it and slowly bent back either by use or I often push off on it while getting in/out of the buggy. Today I added a double sheer tab to...
Some mini me action. Been into RC crawlers from the early days and put this rig together this summer. Is a Super Shafty Chupacapra chassis this has similar lines to the JHF trail chassis. Using Axial Capra portal axles, West Desert Wheeler cut and shut Krawler tires, and some import 2.2...
On my last buggy with a TH400 there was enough material to pull the factory plastic vent tube out and drill/tap to 1/8" NPT and use a barb adapter to vent hose. MY 700r4 has very little material around the plastic tube so I used some heat shrink on the factory tube to shim it up then some 1/4...
For me I cross engine valve cover breathers to other side and down with filters. Trans goes back to the bottom of a B pillar X tube used as catch can so will drain back into trans if rolled then righted. T-case is sealed bellows. Steering is to a a T with 10 psi pressure relief to maintain...
Friend mentioned a trailer for sale from a guy he bought some stuff from. For $1000 picked up this 25.5' partial tilt bumper pull 14k torsion axle trailer. Slowly rebuilt it of the last year. The tilt was just a 1.5" hole thru both frame rails with just a bolt and was seriously egged out. Used...
This is the pickup tube i am using, I read about it on Jesse's Pokey build. Uses a Camaro oil pickup to move it toward rear of pan. It is discussed in post 391, 392, and 397 in this thread:

I am using a rmvb on my 700 with stock lockup converter wired to only lock in 4th. I was poisonings going to do a basic shift kit but didn't want to have to mess with the TV cable so going full manual eliminates that. IMO an stock pattern automatic vb use a SHO shifter and a full manual vb use...
Something to consider limiting externally is the potential to force debris into your shaft seal area. It's not hard to disassemble a cylinder and use some aluminum or delrin or similar pucks to limit internally.
I can't complain about power on the 3.9. I am 75:1 crawl ratio for reference.
Here is a clip of a power climb. First part was 1st gear and rev limitered out and second attempt was in 2nd gear.
Looking good. All the little things that have to fit somewhere and the last 20% of components that take 50% of the build time to complete. I may suggest rethinking that steering cooler behind the radiator fan. Might turn it into a steering fluid heater blowing 200 degree air onto it. Maybe it...
I have used the Howe large inline cooler on a few rigs now and temps per my racetemp stickers is always in check. I used -10 for my return/ cooler circuit (-8 for pressure and -12 for suction)
Another thought on belly and skid, I tried to make all my skid mounts adjacent to link mounts to use the skid as support for the crossmember loads, not just the corners. Dropping skid is nice for maintenance, last winter I dropped skid to clean out debris and replace trans pan gasket and shift...
Couple little updates, I got a set of the Radflo JHF spec bypass air shocks and the front were a straight swap but the rear I originally had swayaway shocks which are 3.325" shorter eye-to-eye than the radflos while both being 18" travel. Cut the mounts off the chassis and axle and reset for the...
