NEVADA - BLM - South Steptoe Travel Management Plan Preliminary EA Available
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is making the South Steptoe Travel Management Plan Preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) available for public review and comment until June 30, 2011. The travel management plan designates routes for recreational use in south Steptoe Valley, south of Ely, in White Pine County, Nev. Road designations range from open to limited or closed.
Route designations consider a wide range of public land uses while managing access to prevent long-term ecological damage. The public is asked to review and provide comment on alternatives developed by the BLM in collaboration with the South Steptoe Technical Review Team and White Pine County travel management planning coalition.
Public comment meetings are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesdays, May 18 and 25, and June 1 and 8, at the BLM Ely District Office, 702 North Industrial Way, in Ely. For planning purposes, the travel management plan is divided into sections or planning units. The public comment meetings will focus on the planning units as follows:
May 18, Planning Units 1 and 5
May 25, Planning Units 2, 3 and 4
June 1, Planning Units 6 and 9
June 8, Planning Units 7 and 8
The 60-day public comment period concludes at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011. Interested individuals should address all written comments to the BLM Ely District Office, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV 89301, Attn: Project Lead John Miller. Comments may be submitted electronically to jrmiller@blm.gov.
For more information, please contact John Miller, Project Lead at the BLM Ely District Office at (775) 289-1834, by email to jrmiller@blm.gov, or by visiting their website.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
Thanks in advance for your support,
