[IMG]This Friday, May 2 marks the first day of the Second Annual Smoke in the Valley Music, Motorsports and BBQ Festival at the Antioch Speedway in Morganton, NC.

The festival will run Friday through Sunday at 2850 Race Track St. Some of the festivities include competitive mud bogging, live music, flat track motorcycle racing, the “BOLD 100” Enduro car race and live music as well as tailgate party and speedway filming by Pizza Kings reality TV show.

Last year’s event had a turnout of over 2,000 people and more are expected this year. “We are expecting to see a crowd of around 3,000 people if we have good weather,” says Danny Smith, event promoter.

The gates and campgrounds open at 10 a.m. on Friday, along with all of the courses except the half mile track, which opens at 7:30 p.m. Off-roaders of all types, from Mitsubishi to Jeep enthusiasts, will be able to practice on the mud bog, off-road trails, obstacle course and hill climbs all day.

Smoke in the Valley is a diverse, motorsport-packed weekend. Smith says, “We offer one of the most affordable weekend events, with a huge selection of diverse motorsports like stock car, motorcycle flat- track, quad trail and dirt bike trail racing as well as mud bogging events and 4WD courses. We provide an opportunity for anyone to come to and enjoy their off-road vehicle.”

At 8 p.m., Smoke in the Valley will hold the Biker Babe competition for a grand prize of $200 and a Biker Burnout competition in the O’reilly Auto Parts Winners’ Circle. There will also be a 10-lap Pole Night Dash, where the winners will get the front two positions for Saturday’s Enduro car race.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, the excitement begins again with craft and food vendors. There will be live music all day Saturday, from musicians such as the Whiskey Throttle Band, Sawbones, Chad Triplett & the Ramblin Gypsy Band and headliner Jessta James.

There will be biker games all day long Saturday and the dirt bike trail race is the first race of the day, a one hour race on a two mile course with a prize of $150. Competitive mud bogging begins at 2 p.m., followed by an adult quad trail race at three and a “fastest through” mud bogging race at six.

The Dirt Cartel presents “Extreme FWD”, a 20 lap main event at 8:40 p.m., where front wheel drive racers will compete for the fastest time. This will be followed by the big Endura car race at nine.

Additional activities include camping, fishing, cornhole tournaments, trophies for the best tailgate parties and campsites as well as for the biggest truck and baddest truck and prizes for the best mechanical bull ride and the sexiest slow ride.

“We offer a little bit of something for everybody to enjoy,” says Smith. There will be no motorsports on Sunday, but the other fun will continue until 6 p.m., when the gates close up until next year’s event.
