Project: Lakeside Signage Rehabilitation
Location: Arizona

Description: This project was funded by Can-Am Off-Road. Can-Am has committed to funding trail stewardship projects in the state of Arizona in partnership with Tread Lightly! to help maintain and improve access to public lands and off-road trails.

On July 7, 2023, 25 volunteers helped with the installation and rehabilitation of signage in the Apache-Sitegreaves National Forest. Together, volunteers rehabilitated sanded, repaired and painted four very weathered existing kiosks, installed a brand new kiosk at the Linden Trailhead, and implemented new educational signage which included the TREAD principles, local OHV laws and up-to-date maps to help aid riders in the area.

Thank you to the partners who made this possible:

  • Arizona State Parks OHV
  • Carefree Off-road
  • Demers Glass

“What a fun day of volunteering outdoors. It was cool to see like-minded people coming together and giving back to the areas we all enjoy. We had a game plan, all worked together, and the results were awesome. It didn’t even feel like work!” Kyle Trahan, volunteer

“Great partners, great sponsors and awesome volunteers had this kiosk rehab and install project come together and get ACCOMPLISHED in one day! Can’t beat the hard work of Tread Lightly in pulling this off, or that of the generous hearts of our people out there. Thank you to everyone who helped us get this done. We honestly could not have done this without you. Let’s do it again, sometime!”- Joya Szalwinski, USFS

“It was awesome to see so many people from the community donating their time and some materials to get these projects completed. Everyone worked as a well-oiled machine, and it did not feel like work at all. It is so hard nowadays to find people willing to help without expecting anything in return, so it was refreshing see this happen.”-Pierre Demers, Demers Glass

“So, there I was at Clay Springs trailhead we stabilized, we scraped, we painted, but the last hour was by far the most challenging in the unrelenting sun. That’s when Tread Lightly! and Demers Glass arrived; our saviors with the final touch to end a beautiful day. Thanks again for all the help and support.”-Christopher Keahon, USFS
