Butch Baker: '76 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40

Butch BakerOld Yeller is a 1976 FJ-40. It is my favorite, most fun vehicle I've ever owned. It was pretty much stock when I purchased it. It was found by a friend of mine, sitting with a broken transfer case. Needless to say, I picked it up for a song. I rigged up a stock 4 speed tranny to go into it, along with a 350 Chevy motor. I had finished this installation, when on 4 wheeling trip to Clayton, I got a chance to ride shotgun in an FJ-40 with a spring-over and an SM420 tranny.

I came home with resolve and tore all my new work out. 3 months later Old Yeller was driven out of the shop sporting the current design. It is one of the most capable trail rigs most folks around here have been exposed to, and draws lots of attention. All of the modifications were done by Josh, my 19 year old son and myself, in our shop.

Mods. include: 350 Chevy, stock SM465 tranny, early low ratio Toyota transfer case, spring-over, shackle reversal, tilt GM column, Saginaw power steering,Warn 8000 lb winch, custom rear bumper/tire carrier, 2x6 rectangular running boards, Lock-Rite in the front, Lincoln Locker in the rear, 35x15.50x15 Interco TSL/SX, 15x10 A/R wheels, Chevy reclining seats, Russell 3'' Lap Belts.
