Jeff Heasley's Big Yellow Bronco
By Mike "TXJEEPER" Cohn

Jeff Heasley's Big Yellow BroncoJeff Heasley wanted something a little different for hitting the trails. Living in Gunnison, Colorado, he needed something to not only get him to his college classes, but to hit the trails with, as well. Gunnison gets plenty of weather, so a four wheel drive was a neccesity, even when just going to school each day. He chose a 1987 Ford Bronco II.

Like most of us, Jeff started out his project modestly, choosing a 4" Trailmaster lift, 31" tires, and a Warn winch. This kept him happy for a few years and got him where he needed to go. But still not content, Jeff started building the Bronco II up more, while trying to keep the truck streetable for its daily-driver duties.

During the mid-90's, Jeff started getting into more trailing and realized that he needed more than what he had to go play with the big dogs. After breaking the rear ring and pinion gears several times, he ordered up a Currie 9" rear end with 4.56 gears and a Detroit Locker.

Today, Jeff runs a Dana 44 up front that stands up to most of what Jeff dishes out but when it doesn't, he's got plenty of spare parts and an on-board welder/generator and air to get him going again. Under the hood, a Ford 302 provides the power and an Atlas II transfer case with a 4.3:1 ratio sends it out to 39.5" Boggers, sitting under 12" of lift.
