2003 Jeep Wrangler RubiconLate last year we told you that the much-rumored 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon was coming. Well now, the official word is out and we've got the whole scoop and photos to boot. Though the hardcore set has felt that Jeep has ignored their pleas for a truly trailworthy out-of-the-box Jeep for years, it seems that the engineers and marketers have been paying attention afterall.

The new Wrangler (TJ) Rubicon will be ready to tackle some pretty tough trails right out of the box. The best part is that the Rubicon is already set up for trail use and comes with a factory warranty! For those willing to cast the warranty aside, the Rubicon will be an awesome base to build up a true rockcrawler. Just add lift and tires and you'll be good to go.

TJ Rubicon =
TJ Sport + 31" tires + dual Dana 44 axles + air lockers + 4 wheel disk brakes + rocker sill guards + 4:1 transfer case

Here's the breakdown:

  • 2003 Jeep Wrangler RubiconGoodyear MT/R 31-inch Tires: New 31-inch Goodyear MT/R tires feature large lugs and voids in tread that wraps around the side wall to help grab ledges on the trail. With a more puncture resistant sidewall, these tires are mounted on new 16-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels designed with a dished face to protect the wheel from off-road damage.
  • Dana Model 44 Axles: Front and rear, Dana 44 axles provide the durability and strength needed for extreme off-road driving.
  • Locking Differentials: A dash-mounted switch locks the rear axle and toggles the front axle locker on and off for improved maneuvering. A pneumatic pump runs at just six pounds per square inch for a quieter system than available in the after-market, mechanically locking the axle shafts together to drive all four wheels at the same speed.
  • Four-Wheel Disc Brakes: Standard four-wheel disc brakes are self-cleaning off-road and provide better brake feel on road, with decreased stopping distance and reduced brake fade.
  • Diamond Plate Sill Guards: Heavy gauge diamond plate sill guards protect rocker panels from damage in extreme off-road situations.
  • NVG241OR Transfer Case with 4.0:1 Low Range: All-new and Jeep engineered for Wrangler, the NVG241OR slows vehicle speed down to give the driver more control and increases the amount of torque available at the wheels.
  • Powertrain: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is available with the 4.0-liter PowerTech™ I-6 and either a manual or automatic transmission. The powerful 4.0-liter engine provides 190 horsepower and 235 lb.-ft of torque.
