Rob MacCachren is coming into this weekend’s Tecate SCORE Baja 500 with a confidence that some could mistake for arrogance, but only for those who don’t know Rob MacCachren.  “Rob Mac” is quiet and unassuming off the race course, but once he puts his Impact by MasterCraft Safety helmet on he is all business.  Such was the case at the season opening event for the 2011 TRAXXAS The Off-Road Championship (TORC) short course racing series in RedBud, Michigan.
Qualifying at RedBud was canceled due to inclimate weather, and MacCachren drew the second starting position for Sunday’s race.  Rob was able to jump out to an early lead in his new No. 21 Pro 2WD RAM truck for the flag-to-flag win and also earned the Oakley Bomb Award for fastest lap of the race.  “Driving an 800 horsepower rear wheel drive truck is enough of a challenge when it is dry!” MacCachren joked after the race. By all accounts, the MasterCraft Racing / Rockstar Energy Drink team was going to be a force to be reckoned with at the 2010 Tecate SCORE Baja 500.  With three SCORE Trophy Trucks starting in the top ten and incredibly strong finishes at the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250, expectations were justifiably high.  Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.  “That is why we race,” explained a sage Robbie Pierce, CEO of MasterCraft Safety.  “If we already knew who was going to  take home the victory, it wouldn’t be very exciting. The  unforgiving and challenging Baja peninsula always has a way of keeping things interesting, and that is one of the biggest appeals of desert racing.”
