Rock   What it Takes?While attending any event, it’s easy to think, “I could have coordinated this so much better!” We have all been to some motor sports event, and wondered; “Why did the event planner organize the event this way?” However, have you ever really stopped and thought about what actually goes on behind the scenes of a race or event? This summer 2012, I did just that. I was given the honor of being able to travel all over the U.S. with the organizers and hosts of the W.E. Rock, aka World Extreme Rock Crawling events.

With the recent excitement towards the Ultra-4 racing, and advancements of the sport, W.E. Rock decided to add a new event to their season. Dirt Riots are their newest venture and get the drivers not only thinking about how to manage the course, but how to do it in the fastest time as well. It is not a race to the finish line, but an endurance race, and the one who manages to make it through as many laps as possible in 3 hours, wins this new style of racing. Read More→

BU RPR D2R Save JV Check 220x80 Ultra4 Race Teams Join Forces for Land Use FundraiserFebruary 5, 2013, Johnson Valley, CA – The iconic King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley, CA took on new meaning and added opportunity for education and fundraising this year as racers work to keep the area open to public recreation.  The Marine Corps has been trying to annex the land for their use since 2007 under the auspice of training space and increased national security.  Off-roaders including the race teams involved in King of the Hammers are fighting this move and working tirelessly to keep the 146,000 acres there open to public use.  On February 5th DSquared Racing 4441, Big Ugly Racing 4435 and Race Prep Racing 4474 banded together during this year’s race week with a unique and fun idea – let’s sell cups and throw a party and give the money to the cause. Daren Henke of DSquared Racing said, “An event mid week when we are all working so hard to be ready to race just seemed perfect.” Read More→

Jason Scherer KOH 2013 1 220x146 Jason Scherer Man Powers Every Rock Trail Twice at 2013 King of the HammersDANVILLE, CA   FEBRUARY 15, 2013   Jason Scherer started on the pole position at the 2013 Griffin King of the Hammers presented by Nitto Tires, proceeded directly to Back Door where he one-shotted the obstacle perfectly and after regaining positions was 4th through the RM38 remote pit. From there it was a battle of man over machine.  “It was absolutely without a doubt the hardest thing I have every done to drive every rock trail twice without power steering,” said the 2009 King Jason Scherer who has finished in the top 20 for 4 consecutive years.  “I finished 21st with 25 minutes to go, my arms and shoulders brutally beaten and cold as hell, but I didn’t give up.”  Read More→

The Scientists of Lighting - at Baja Designs are thrilled to be part of the 2013 King of the Hammers spectacle.  Ultra 4 racing has become well known as one of the toughest race series in the United States and King of the Hammers is the granddaddy of them all.  The scientists of Baja Designs will have a booth setup so everyone can see their lights, including the new OnX LED that provides the distance of an HID with the smoothness of an LED.  BD scientists will also be on hand to help aim your lights and recommend the ultimate lighting setup for your vehicle.  Bluetorch Fabworks owner and racer, Jason Carner says, “We are all really excited for this year’s KOH, and even though we hope we won’t have to use our BD lights for this race, we always know we have the best in the business.” Read More→

DSC 0209 220x146 Race Prep Racing #4474 to Take the First Green Flag at King of the HammersSimi Valley, CA – Race Prep Racing’s Unlimited Ultra4 car #4474 will be the first pro class car to take the green flag during the famous King of the Hammers week held in Johnson Valley, CA February 3-9.  Richie Carter, the three-time driver of the team’s Falken sponsored car will be the first to tackle the qualifier course on Tuesday morning when racing begins.  The course remains a heavily guarded secret, but this premier starting position offers the team a clean race course, before the other 150+ racers have had a chance to dig it up and alter its difficulty.  This could prove to be a huge advantage for this seasoned racer.
