To adapt the Dana 300 transfer case with the 700r4 transmission, the input shaft must be changed with a new one provided in the Novak kit. It's easy to do. First, remove the input housing from the transfer case.

Take off the outer snap ring.

I used a 3-jaw puller from the local AutoZone to pull the gears off the shaft. Also, warming the gears with a propane torch helps.

Next, is another larger snap ring.

Next to come off is the input bearing. I used the torch to warm up (expand) the bearing and with a little help from the puller it came off easily.

Here's the correct disassembly order. Once it's all off, you get to put it all back on the new shaft on the left. I put mine in the freezer for a half an hour and in the meantime, used the propane torch to warm the bearing. It slid right on, no pounding needed.
