Ramsey Bad Boy Winches

By Mike "TXJEEPER" Cohn

Installation
Installation is pretty much straightforward. You'll need standard hand tools and if you have a Jeep, make sure you have a large Torx bit if you need to take off the bumper and/or install a winch mount. In our case, we already had a Ramsey on our Bulletproof Bumper, so we just needed to get the Platinum out and replace it.

Installation Notes
Ramsey Platinum 9000
Our Platinum 9000 was already mounted on our Bulletproof Bumper.

If you have to remove your bumper, air tools make a huge difference. We used our Power Tank for air.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
One of our bumper's Torx bolts was a bit cross-threaded in the frame, so we decided it was best to leave it alone and simply rotate the bumper out and slide the winch out the side.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
The winch gets bolted onto the mount with the nuts and washers on the inside of the winch's feet. Getting them in place can be tricky. Using a pick can make a world of difference.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
Once the winch is put in place, the bumper can be put back on.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
Once the bumper is back on, any lights can be remounted, as well.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
The winch and bumper are now completely mounted. Next, the hook must be attached.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
The hook uses a roll pin to attach it to the loop on the end of the winch's rope.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
Assembling the hook is a bit interesting and small hands would have been helpful.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
The main piece is inserted through the hook and loop. Then the roll pin is lightly hammered in place.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
Once the roll pin is flush, we got it inside the hook a bit by hammering on a center punch. Repeat for the other side, using the second roll pin.
Ramsey Platinum 9000
Here it is. A completed installation, including the wired remote and Ramsey's new pull strap which they recommend using when pulling the line out.
