Kremmling Krawl
The course was specially built for the Rock Crawl
What the Heck Was the Kremmling Rock Crawl?
The "Kremmling Rock Crawl" was a first of its kind rockcrawling competition put on by a local four wheel drive club in Colorado. The efforts and thought put into this two day event put on by the "High Country Four Wheelers" and Mike Vandre were very impressive. Almost every single detail had been thought out to make the competition enjoyable for everyone, not just the competitors.

The locals really pulled together to make it a fun event. The event included on-site camping, breakfast, lunch, dinner, raffles, live music, RTI ramps, and all sorts of vendors to visit. The event drew a huge crowd of spectators, and the way the course was laid out made for a very spectator-friendly event.

The Course!
The course was carved out of a gully that was made up of the finest baby powder sand I have ever seen. Tons of rocks were brought in, specifically to build this course.

There were seven obstacles for the competitors to master. Everyone was allowed to practice on the course the Friday before the event. Chris Lippolis and I thought this was a great idea until we broke our competition rig beyond repair Friday night. Lip was not listening to his spotter - me. Oh well.

With us out of the competition so soon, we spent our efforts making sure the rest of the Gecko team performed well. When you look at the results below you will see that it paid off, as we put the three remaining rigs on our team in the top ten.

The Competition!
The event lasted two full days, beginning on the 28th of July. The first day consisted of nearly 50 competitors. By the end of the day, only the top 20 would move on to day two. Day one proved that only the strong survive a competition like this. Several vehicles had to drop out of the competition due to breakage, while others just did not make the cut.

The second day of competition was much more intense. With the weaker rigs removed, everyone could get down to business. The fun part of day two was that all of the obstacles were run the opposite direction of day one. So, if you drove up it on day one you had to drive down it on the next. If you had to go right before, now you had to go left. This made some obstacles easier but made others even more challenging. It was like being on a completely different course.

The Winners!
The overall competition was narrowed down to the top ten vehicles with prize money for the top three. Below, you can see who the top 20 were from day one. The points were then zeroed out and competition started fresh for day two.

Neil Lillard who took first place overall and Eric Bills, who took third place, donated their winnings back to the event so that future events may be held. They were both driving the "High Country 4x4 Performance" Jeep.
