Smokey Mountain Venture '99 Canadians
head to Tellico National Forest, North Carolina
The
second day, we had signed up for trails 2, 5 and 6. Trail 2 was a
little more interesting for the Tellico new comers. Locally know as
the Bobsled Run, it was a trail cut into the mountain from years of
rigs going up and down and mother nature taking care of the rest. A
long four to eight feet deep trench was the way down to the bottom of
trail #2. With several drop-offs and good off-camber situations, that
had the long wheelbased vehicles running with a pucker factor of five,
and generally a wheel three feet in the air, we made it to the bottom.
After 2 we headed down 5 which was opposite from the day before. Now,
the obstacles that seemed easy the day before had a different flavour.
Though, not too
difficult, we had a good day without too many mishaps. We headed back
to the camp to change for the dinner and award ceremony.
Tom
has been at this for 25 years, and as M.C. was able to recall many
stories from the past, whether fact or fiction. He told us since he
was telling them he was allowed to make a few changes as he saw fit.
That he did. For two hours he handed out nine awards ranging from
Murphy's Law, Greenie Weenie, V.I.P., and The Ventures Intrepid
Pilgrimage Award that went to us for our 36 hour journey. The food was
great and the stories could have gone on for hours.
