  • MEMORIAL MONUMENT IN HONOR OF RECENT CALIFORNIA 200 RACE CRASH VICTIMS TO BE UNVEILED AT 2010 LUCAS OIL OFF-ROAD EXPO

POMONA, CALIF. (September 21, 2010) – Off-Road community members, racers, volunteers and companies in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management will gather on Saturday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m., at the 2010 Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo for the unveiling of the California 200 Memorial Monument, a large scale statue designed to honor the victims of the recent desert race accident where eight were killed and 12 injured. “The annual Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo is where the Off-Road Nation comes together, making it naturally an appropriate place to unveil the memorial,” said off-road industry spokesperson and California 200 memorial project co-chair, Marty Fiolka. “This will give the families of the victims, supporters, fans and the entire off-road community an opportunity to reflect on this terrible tragedy.” (more…)

  • RockCrawler RZR Videos

    September 21, 2010

Had the opportunity this past weekend to put the RockCrawler RZR thru it’s higher speed paces.  A friend has 500 acres with a private lake in northern Wisconsin, and parts of the property includes trails for their ATV’s.  We made a few hot lap runs around the 1.7 mile lake loop.

The first video with shot with my buddy Goebs leading on his Honda 4-stroke…chasing the ATV added a bit of perspective to the video, and he was nice enough to keep his speeds down and mostly stay in frame.  Time on this lap was 3:25 and top speed was in the 45 mph range (forgot to reset the GPS…oops)

Video two is the same loop done in reverse, and at night.  Time was not taken on this one, but top speed per the GPS was 41mph.  Notice that around 0:33 in the video, I turned on the 30″ Rigid Industries LED light…major improvement over the dim stockers!

  • HIGH STRENGTH BIRFIELDS AND AXLE SHAFTS FOR TOYOTA APPLICATIONS

Toyota Trucks & Landcruisers are well known for their strength & reliability all over the world.  Out of the box they feature some pretty great drivetrain, but they do have their limits.   The factory axles are 30 spline at the diff, but neck down to 27 spline at the birfield creating a failure point.  Additionally the factory Birfield joints are not built to withstand the added stress of larger tires and heavy offroad use. Nitro Gear & Axle has addressed this by offering a range of Heavy Duty Chromoly Birfield Joints & Axle Shafts. (more…)

  • Joe Bacal and Lexus Secure First Off Road Championship

PRIMM, Nevada, September 13, 2010 – Just 15 months ago, Joe Bacal and Lexus surprised the off-road racing establishment with a trouble-free run to victory in the team’s very first race at the 2009 Baja 500.  Since that first success, the Cancer Treatment Centers of America-sponsored team has enjoyed an unbroken streak of wins and podium finishes that on Saturday culminated in their first off-road championship with a dominant Stock Full-class win at the SCORE Terrible’s Las Vegas Primm 300.

“We came into this racing series as off-road racing rookies but we also came prepared,” said Bacal.  “We did our homework and were confident the Lexus would be fast and reliable.  Of course it helps to have a great team and sponsors behind you, too.  Things have worked out pretty well.” (more…)

  • Perfect Weekend at the VORRA Hawthorne 225 Desert Race

RENO,NV    SEPTEMBER 8, 2010: The VORRA Hawthorne 225 desert race Labor Day Weekend was a great success.  There were over 40 entries with more than half finishing in a perfectly executed desert race.  The weekend also included a parade of off road desert cars through downtown Hawthorne, and the movie premier of Dezert People 8 at the El Capitan Lodge and Casino. The Hawthorne 225 is the fourth desert race in the 2010, eight race VORRA series that includes an additional four short course races.

Wes Harbor, VORRA Director, took the opportunity at the mandatory drivers meeting to reinforce BLM’s commitment to help promoters be successful while enforcing new safety procedures.  There was not one incident over the course of the whole weekend. (more…)
