Ultra4 Racing created a new style of race last month at Miller Motorsports Park by combining short course and rock crawling. The result was a spectacular race full of high jumps, gnarly roll overs and intense racing.

The driving and the footage were so impressive that we asked Will Gentile of Heavy Metal Concepts to create a highlight video of the event that included coverage from the Dactyl Camera sponsored by Falken Tire which captured some amazing aerial shots of the action!

The following video combines never-before-seen footage, awesome driving, and great editing! We hope you enjoy the video and please share it on your web sites and social media sites!

  • Big Ugly Unexpectedly Goes “Pink” for King of the Hammers 2011

After experiencing a devastating transmission failure only hours before the start of King Of the Hammers 2011, Kevin Sacalas of Big Ugly Racing asked In the Pink Racing if they’d like to join forces to race in the main event.  In the Pink missed qualifying in the Last Chance Qualifier by only a couple spots.  When Sacalas discovered the transmission was irreparable, he decided to make the best of a bad situation. He had a spot in the race and no car, and In the Pink had a car but no spot. So they decided to join forces. Both teams spent months preparing for this event and combining their efforts just made sense.  “Both of our teams have a lot of heart, and I remember when I missed qualifying in my TJ by a couple of spots. We both had crews fully prepped and ready to go. Joining our teams and being able to work with a group that loves this sport as much as I do is a win for all of us.” (more…)

Sacalas’ “Big Ugly” Takes Close 2nd at Silver State 300

Kevin Sacalas went into last week’s BITD Silver State 300 with one goal: to prove he was a contender in the Ultra4 class. He did just that! At the end of 300 miles, one minute 18 seconds is all that separated Sacalas, the 2009 Vegas to Reno winner, from Loren Healy, the 2010 King of the Hammers winner. Ultimately, as they crossed the finish line, following a 90+ MPH drag race through the silt beds of the Nevada desert, Healy would take 1st with Sacalas coming in a close 2nd. Silver State 300 was Sacalas’ 3rd Ultra4 race in the 4435 car he built in his garage that fans have affectionately dubbed, “Big Ugly.” (more…)
