RENO, NV APRIL 13, 2011 Torchmate Racing had drivers at every aspect of the country last weekend. In Texas, Brad Lovell made history taking the Overall Win at the BRT Blackwelll 250 Desert Race in an Ultra4 car. Rock Crawler Jesse Haines took the Unlimited Class win at the Cal-Neva Extreme event in Reno, NV successfully completing every bonus line. In Alaska, Torchmate Racing Tyler Thomas and Matt Shrive raced in the 2011 Arctic Man where their hopes of leaving with the win got cut short when Shrive crashed at speeds over 50mph on his snowboard. Sacalas takes 1st place in Lucas Oil Short Course at Glen Helen
April 2, 2011 – Glen Helen, CA: Kevin Sacalas took 1st place last weekend at the Lucas Oil Regional Short Course race held at Glen Helen Raceway. Sacalas dominated the morning practice and qualifying heats before claiming the podium in the final race of the day. Throughout the morning runs there was a 3 way battle between 2010’s King of the Hammers, Loren Healy, HammerKing’s Dave Cole and Big Ugly’s, Kevin Sacalas. It all came down to the final race of the day. For the first few laps, Healy held the lead with Kevin a few car lengths back and Dave Cole in the mix. At about the 4th Lap, Sacalas gained on Healy and the two drove nose to tail for almost a full lap before Sacalas took the inside line on a turn as they crested a tabletop side by side and Kevin and Loren aired out their cars. As the cars came back to earth, Sacalas’ front passenger tire landed on Healy’s front driver tire. Sacalas was able to continue into the turn and Healy momentarily struggled to regain control of his car. Sacalas never looked back. He held his lead for the next 10 laps to take home the checkered flag. (more…) -
Roger Norman Rock Crawls with Torchmate Racing and Takes 3rd in Rookie Appearance
RENO, NV APRIL 7, 2011 – Roger Norman decided to compete in another discipline of racing this year: Rock Crawling. In his rookie appearance at the W.E. Rock West Tucson, AZ event he challenged himself and finished on the podium in his Torchmate Racing Pro Mod #8 rock crawler. “Rock crawling is tougher than it looks,” exclaimed successful Trophy Truck racer Roger Norman. “There is actually a ton of strategy and teamwork involved.” (more…)
