Jeep® Freshens Liberty for 2005

OVERVIEW

NEW 2005 JEEP LIBERTY STANDS APART

  • FRESHENED EXTERIOR AND REFINED INTERIOR ACROSS THE LINE
  • JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE MODEL FEATURES MORE RUGGED APPEARANCE
  • JEEP LIBERTY FEATURES FIRST DIESEL IN U.S. MID-SIZE SUV SEGMENT

Jeep Liberty will offer the first diesel in the U.S. mid-size sport-utility vehicle segment, adding unique capability in support of the Jeep brand’s constant push for innovation and market leadership. This new engine offering will provide increased torque, power and range.

The availability of a diesel engine on the Jeep Liberty reinforces the Jeep brand’s leadership position in the sport-utility market, underscores our commitment to alternative fuels and technology, and gives customers an optional power plant that no other competitor can offer,” said Jeff Bell, Chrysler Group Vice President – Jeep.

Jeep Liberty will be available with a 2.8-liter common rail diesel (CRD) engine for the first time in the United States. The 2.8-liter CRD is rated at an estimated 160 horsepower (120 kW) at 3800 rpm and with 295 lb.-ft. (400 N.m) at 1800 rpm, providing class-leading torque and towing capability. Diesel engines offer another option for increased torque, towing and range, while improving fuel economy an average of 25 percent and reducing CO2 emissions by an average of 20 percent. The diesel engine will be available on both Sport and Limited models.

The restyled and repackaged Jeep Liberty Renegade becomes the image leader for Liberty, and features a more rugged, classic Jeep appearance.

2005 Jeep LibertyLiberty Renegade is reminiscent of vintage Jeep vehicles with a new flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards. This model will feature functional rock rails, four skid plates, and available P235/70R16 all-terrain tires with wider, more aggressive treads, available GPS DVD-based navigation radio and “diamond plate-inspired” seat fabric. The Liberty Renegade is also available with an optional overhead light bar.

The 2005 Jeep Liberty will offer a freshened exterior and refined interior across the line. The new Jeep Liberty is given a freshened exterior design with new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side-moldings. Interior refinements include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort.

True to its Jeep heritage, the 2005 Jeep Liberty continues to give enthusiasts a sense of personal capability and freedom by offering the best four-wheel-drive lineup in the segment,” said Bell. “The Jeep Liberty distinguishes itself from less capable 4 x 4s.

Jeep Liberty clearly stands apart among car-based sport-utility vehicles in terms of capability, as well as truck-based offerings in terms of on-road refinement. A coil spring independent front suspension and link-coil rear suspension provide an exceptional on-road ride and legendary off-road capability. Sturdiness and four-wheel drive give Jeep Liberty 5000 lbs. of trailer-towing capability.

The 2005 Jeep Liberty 4 x 4 models are Trail Rated ® and meet or exceed the minimum requirements established by the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) and Jeep Engineering. Only Jeep vehicles are Trail Rated.

BRAND

NEW 2005 JEEP LIBERTY EXPANDS DEPTH AND BREADTH OF JEEP BRAND

  • JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE OFFERS A MORE RUGGED DESIGN
  • FIRST MID-SIZE SUV WITH 2.8-LITER COMMON RAIL DIESEL ENGINE

Created to expand the depth and breadth of the Jeep brand, Jeep Liberty has not only captivated traditional Jeep buyers, but also has attracted a new generation of sport-utility vehicle buyers who value the best combination of Jeep 4 x 4 capability and on-road refinement in the mid-size sport-utility segment.

The new 2005 Jeep Liberty continues to expand the Jeep brand portfolio with its freshened exterior and interior design on Sport and Limited models, new Liberty Renegade design with unique exterior, as well as the addition of the first diesel engine in a compact SUV for North American markets.

Introduced for the 2002 model year, Jeep Liberty stayed true to its Jeep heritage by offering Jeep 4 x 4 capability to set it apart among a new generation of less capable mid-size sport-utility vehicles. The Jeep Liberty is uniquely positioned to deliver both the refinement required by this expanding market, while also offering the toughness of the legendary Jeep brand.

Since its introduction, the Jeep Liberty has attracted nearly 75 percent new buyers to the Jeep brand, while still appealing to Jeep 4 x 4 owners.

The Jeep Liberty proves that Jeep is a growth brand. We have expanded the number of new buyers who are attracted to our performance and heritage,” said Jeff Bell, Chrysler Group Vice President – Jeep. “Depending on their needs, buyers have the opportunity to get the Jeep 4 x 4 capability in a very nicely equipped Liberty Sport or, opt for a more premium model with the Liberty Limited.

For 2005, the new Jeep Liberty Renegade will offer a distinct exterior when compared to the Sport and Limited models, and will appeal to a slightly different buyer with its more rugged design. The Jeep Liberty Renegade model will feature a new flatter hood and taller grille, plus off-road foglamps, taillamp guards, fender flares, available all-terrain tires and higher ground clearance.

With the more dramatic design change to the new 2005 Liberty Renegade, we expect to broaden the appeal of the Liberty Renegade even more to those who may have longed for a four-door Wrangler,” said Bell.

In addition to the design changes, the Jeep Liberty will be offered with a new diesel engine option for the first time in North American markets. The newly revised 2.8-liter common rail diesel engine (CRD) gives buyers state-of-the-art technology to fit their lifestyle. The 2.8-liter CRD is equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission on the 4 x 4 Jeep Liberty Sport and Jeep Liberty Limited models.

Providing class-leading torque and towing, the diesel engine will attract yet another buyer to the Jeep Liberty. The 2.8-liter CRD engine is rated at an estimated 160 horsepower (120 kW) at 3800 rpm and with 295 lb.-ft. (400 N.m) of torque at 1800 rpm for unmatched towing power. Diesel engines offer another option for increased torque, towing and range, while improving fuel economy an average of 25 percent and reducing CO2 emissions by an average of 20 percent.

2005 Jeep LibertyBell added, “Our new diesel engine gives you the performance of a V-6 with 25 percent better fuel economy. We always say Jeep is the go-anywhere, do-anything brand, and the new diesel gives our owners even more capability to do just that.

New this year for gasoline versions of the Liberty is a six-speed manual transmission, which replaces the previous five-speed manual transmission. The new NSG 370 six-speed transmission offers improved quality and NVH specifications. It is available on 4 x 2 models and 4 x 4 Sport and Renegade models.

All Jeep Liberty four-wheel-drive models will wear the Jeep Trail Rated badge. The Jeep Trail Rated badge shows that the vehicle has been designed to perform in a variety of challenging off-road conditions identified by five key consumer-oriented performance categories: Traction, Ground Clearance, Maneuverability, Articulation and Water Fording.

Jeep Trail Rated is an industry-leading methodology established by the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) and Jeep Engineering to objectively measure and consistently predict off-road performance for all Jeep vehicles today and into the future. Through a combination of natural and controlled field tests, as well as computer simulated environments, Jeep Trail Rated provides a repeatable and consistent measurement of off-road performance for all Jeep vehicles. Only Jeep vehicles are Trail Rated.
