A small group of us met up in South Dakota separately from Dtc the week of labor day weekend. It was my first time over that way and absolutely loved the scenery and terrain. 3 of the 4 cars had a few issues, two flops but we covered almost everything we wanted to.

Day 1 was dropping down Kong, then running Calamity Canyon, then back around to run most of Hal John's. On one of the camp 5 road crossings Daniel Strong put a rock into his oil pan and had to be towed back to an area he could get his trailer to. Then, Jeff in his jhf car blew up the new grizzly locker barely off idle working his front onto a waterfall. John and I ran alot of Hal John's as Jeff followed on the access road in 3wd but we eventually decided to just bail and get back to camp. So People could start working on getting fixed.

Daniel. Didn't have luck finding a new pan so decided to take it off and jbweld it. Jeff was able to get his together and him and I went on a quick run up Kong to test.

The next day we move the trailers over to Tback and Bikini about an hour away. We barely beat the DTC crowd there and parking was tight. We jumped on Tback first and second or third obstacle John dropped his right rear in a hole and throttle rolled his car over. We did a quick recovery, bumped the starter to check for hydrolock and we're on our way. We then got into the next obstacle before John realized the bendix on his starter was staying engaged and eventually fried the starter. This similar issue happed at KOH he said. We parked his rig and all ran Tback. John and Jeff then ran to the trailer to grab Jeff's spare LS starter that we were fairly confident would work on the LV3v6. Daniel and I went and ran Bikini quickly without issue.

We met back up with John and Jeff, helped John finish getting his together and ran Tback again, in which I got cute trying a different line on one of the obstacles and flopped on my side. Total rookie move.

We the all ran Bikini so John could see it without issue again. We then trailered over toward the parking area of Captain to camp for the night.

Day 3 it was just Daniel and I as Jeff and John were staying longer and were going to run these trails the following day. The weather forecast was also not favorable but we were there and figured it was worth a shot. Well we headed to captain and got caught in some rain and ended up dropping down 2/3 captain before we really realized. We turned around and ran it back up and out and man was it gnarly. We both winched once but no carnage. I'm definitely going back to run it dry bottom to top. We Headed back towards camp slowly and ended up running up fruity pebbles quickly. Then to the trailers we went.

Overall it was an amazing trip and can't wait to go back again someday.

SoDak has some awesome wheeling....I did Fruity Pebbles and part of Capt Crunch over 10 years ago...would love to get the new car out there someday!

Great pics!!

Great trip! I did Captain in 2011 (day 1 of our trip) and broke my bell housing so we were done. Went again in 2017 and did the same trails as you. (Hal Johns, Kong, T-back & Bikini) We had saved Captain till Thursday but as it turned out we had a major repair on T-Back the day before and didn't get back to camp till midnight. With no nut & bolt prep time, no fuel, still needed to eat - we threw in the towel to run Captain because "we knew better" that we would not be properly prepped. Still sad we had to do that. And like you, I want to run Captain again.
