  • Torchmate Racing Mike Shaffer Chases Season Title at BITD Vegas to Reno

    RENO, NV     AUGUST 17, 2011   Mike Shaffer and the Shaffer-Motorsports Team will run the longest offroad race in the US on Friday  August 19th; the TSCO Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race.  The team is currently in third place, only 10 points out of first in the Class 1000 series.  Their goal is to improve on the third place finish that they had at the Silver State 300 and move closer to the Best in the Desert series Class 1000 win.  “We have had a solid season so far, and look to continue pushing to the front of the pack at this race,” said Mike Shaffer, driver of record and owner of Shaffer’s Offroad.

  • Roger Norman New Look at BITD Vegas to Reno

    Roger Norman Qualifies 18th Overall, 10th in Class

    RENO, NV     AUGUST 17, 2011  –  Roger Norman and Jake Velasco qualified in the #8 Wide Open Excursions, Crystal Bay Casino Class 1400 Trick Truck for the longest race on US Soil, the Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno that starts at 9:30am Friday August 19th.  On Wednesday, Norman qualified taking the 18th starting position, and 10th in the class of 28 Trick Trucks. “We had a clean run today with no issues and qualified mid-pack,” said Roger Norman after racing in 107’ Las Vegas heat.  “This is a long and dusty race across the Nevada desert, and we wanted to start out front, but would rather start with a truck that we didn’t have to work on tonight.” (more…)

  • Lasher Motorsports heads to the BITD Vegas to Reno Race this weekend!

    This weekend the Lasher Motorsports team heads to Las Vegas, NV for the TSCO Vegas to Reno Race.   Sitting 3rd in the points championship the Lasher Motorsports teams is looking to improve their position at Vegas to Reno.The team has used the off season to focus on improving their Kawasaki Teryx.  Since the Blue Water Grand Prix in April the team has completely gone through the car not leaving one nut or bolt untouched.  A fresh 916cc V-twin from Muzzy’s was installed and the XMF suspension and Walker Evens shocks were freshened up to tackle the 554 miles of Nevada Desert that the team will face on Friday.   • Race Prep Racing – From Unknown to Top 10

    May 10, 2011 – Simi Valley, CA: At the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 this year a weekend jeeper qualified for the 2012 King of the Hammers (KOH).  With no prior desert racing experience, Ultra4 driver Richie Carter took his Race Prep Racing #4474 car 303 miles in just under 8 hours, scooping up the 5th and final qualifying spot given in this race.  In an instant the team, led by Richie as owner and mechanic as well as driver, became a force to take note of in the Ultra4 class.   • Mike Childress and THR Motorsports Overcome Challenges to Finish Third at BITD Silver State 300

    Mike Childress and THR Motorsports came to the Best In The Desert (BITD) Biltek Silver State 300 (SS300) with high expectations after winning the prestigious Mint 400.  With less than a month to prepare Childress’ Porter/ES Motorsports buggy for the Silver State 300, there was little time to celebrate their victory at the Mint.  Childress qualified 14th at the SS300, finishing less than eight seconds behind the fast time in an extremely tight field of 24 Class 1500 (the equivalent of SCORE’s unlimited Class 1) buggies and 22 Trick Trucks.
  • Sacalas’ Big Ugly “2.0” Proves Fast at Silver State 300

    May 4, 2011 – Riverside, CA:  Best in the Desert Silver State 300 wasn’t the race that Kevin Sacalas of Big Ugly Racing was hoping for, but it did prove beyond a doubt, that his new car is fast; very fast.  By the first check point, Sacalas had a 45 second lead on the next Ultra4 car being driven by 2011 King of the Hammers winner, Shannon Campbell, and a 34 second lead on Campbell’s Class 1 car driven by Shannon’s brother, Nick Campbell.
