  • Darren Skilton Looks For Back To Back Victories For General Tire In His Return To The Legendary Dakar Rally

    Skilton's Revolution VI atop the starting podium to the cheer of fans - DakarDarren Skilton has an addiction with Dakar that began over a decade ago.  Since that time he has become the United States representative for the race’s sanctioning body (ASO) and returned to the rally in a myriad of capacities including navigator, support driver, mechanic, and racer.  Last year Skilton and journalist Sue Mead won the Open Production class in a Ford Raptor shod with production General Grabber tires, but this year Skilton is looking to up the ante by jumping into the deep end of the pool, taking on heavy hitters such as Robby Gordon.  “Volkswagen’s departure from the rally really opens up the field to privateers like myself,” Skilton commented.  “I have a competitive car that has just been sitting and waiting for the right opportunity.  That opportunity has arrived.”   (more…)
  • General Tire to Sponsor Three Entries for the 2012 Dakar Rally, Looking to Repeat 2011 Win

    • General Tire partners with Baja Automotive for the December 29, 2011 – January 15, 2012 Dakar Rally.
    • Darren Skilton, Joaquin De Uriarte and Mark McMillin to pilot the entries.
    • All three entries will race on General’s Grabber tire across the rugged and unpredictable race course.

    Fort Mill, SC – (December 21, 2011) General Tire is pleased to announce their partnership with Baja Automotive to sponsor three entries in the 2012 Dakar Rally. The event begins December 29, 2011 in Mar de Plata, Argentina and finishes January 15, 2012 in Lima, Peru, a pan-American adventure of more than 5,590 miles (or 9,000 kilometers). Darren Skilton will pilot an Unlimited car in the Open Production 1 (OP1) class while Joaquin De Uriarte and Mark McMillin will pilot a Raptor and JeepSpeed in the Open Production 2 (OP2) class respectively. Dakar is one of the world’s great adventures and a true test of the human spirit. This is simply the ultimate event that the General Tire Grabber has been designed and built for. (more…)

  • General Grabber’s Help Carl Renezeder ‘Grab’ LOORRS Pro-4 Unlimited Championship

    Carl Renezeder chalks up eighth career championship at LOORRS finale.

    Fort Mill, SC – (December 20, 2011) With championships, pride and the largest pay day in short-course history on the line, the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season did not disappoint. Carl Renezeder led the Team GT contingency by winning the Pro-4 Unlimited championship, his eighth career championship title. Renezeder made his mark in the history annals logging in 14 podium finishes containing three wins, nine seconds and two thirds to finish out the 2011 LOORRS season. And for those keeping track, that’s 14 podium finishes out of 15 races. This is simply an amazing feat for the championship driver. (more…)

  • General Tire and Baldwin Motorsports Amicably Part Ways

    General Tire will continue to support desert off-road racing.

    Fort Mill, SC – December 19, 2011. General Tire and Baldwin Motorsports will amicably part ways at the end of this year. Following extensive internal discussions, officials at General Tire determined that they need to focus on fulfilling the needs of the high consumer demand for General Tire products and are unable to accommodate the product request required by Baldwin Motorsports by the beginning of the 2012 season.   • Mad Media & Best in The Desert to Produce the Greatest Off-Road Race in the World – The Legendary Mint 400

    General Tire Presents The Mint 400The world-renowned General Tire Mint 400 was recently acquired by The Martelli Brothers – partners in the nationally recognized marketing/production group Mad Media – who have since formed a multi-year partnership with Casey Folks of Best in the Desert to manage the event.  The Mint will now be part of The Best in the Desert American Off-Road Racing Series, but will remain open to privateers.  Hundreds of race teams will compete in twenty different classes of race vehicles at next year’s Mint 400, which will take place the weekend of March 23rd – 25th 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.   • General Tire, Wahoo’s and Azunia Tequila Deliver a World of Possibilities to Rancho El Milagro

    • The fifth annual Baja Children’s Support Run raised $3,000 to buy supplies in addition to building a multi-media center for more than 40 orphans.

    Fort Mill, S.C. – Nov. 23, 2011. General Tire, Wahoo’s Tacos and Azunia Tequila, delivered an early Thanksgiving to some deserving orphans at the Rancho El Milagro (www.ranchomilagro.org) orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico last Wednesday prior to the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. The group was joined by several teams participating in this year’s Baja 1000 at the fifth annual Baja Children’s Support Run. The volunteers collected $3,000 to buy supplies, in addition to building a multi-media center for the more than 34 children and staff of the orphanage. The focus of this year’s event was to install a multi-media center, including new computers and desks, so the kids could discover the world of possibilities that lie ahead for them. (more…)
