  • SEMA HAMMERS MESSAGE: SAVE JOHNSON VALLEY OHV RECREATION AREA

    semaTWENTYNINE PALMS, CA. (Feb. 7, 2013) – The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) has joined with the Off-Road Business Association (ORBA) and a coalition of other land use advocacy organizations to keep the Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area open to enthusiasts.

    The Marine Corps wants to expand its base at Twentynine Palms, California to include ownership of nearly 147,000 acres of adjacent land in Johnson Valley in order to conduct large-scale training exercises for one or two months a year.  (more…)

  • Raceline Wheels Monster $5,000 Bounty at 2013 King of the Hammers

    RT233 Monster RacelineGARDEN GROVE, CA    NOVEMBER 29, 2012:  Every year since the King of the Hammers inception, Raceline Wheels has had multiple sets of Monster Wheels on course.  This year the Raceline Wheels team is adding a $5,000 bounty for the 2013 King of the Hammers winner in the Ultra4 race on Friday February 8, 2013 in Johnson Valley.  “We have always been about supporting our racers, who in turn support us.   • King of the Motos Returns in 2013 as the Toughest Extreme Enduro in the U.S.

    August 20, 2012 (Temecula, CA) – Touted as the toughest extreme enduro in the United States, King of the Motos, held in conjunction with King of the Hammers announced details of the 2013 event and has officially opened pre-registration.

    The “proof of concept” inaugural race in 2012 race was a self supported, twenty-one person invitational debuting in front of 30,000 spectators. Only six of twenty-one racers finished the brutal 85-mile course, adding to the mystique and reputation of the competition. Trials champion, Graham Jarvis from Great Britain won the race which combined punishing boulder climbs and descents linked with high-speed desert racing.

    The 2013 race will expand in length from the previous 85-mile course, passing through many of the infamous rock climbs and descents that have made the Hammers area so famous within the off-road scene. The race will keep the spirit of the “one rider, one bike” format with no outside assistance, even in pits. (more…)

  • Johnson Valley OHV Area Final Environmental Impact Statement has been released.

    ORBA is reviewing the FEIS and working with the California Motorized Recreation Council, and Ecologic Partners on comments.

    The Long awaited Johnson Valley OHV area Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was released last Friday in Washington, D.C.

    The nearly 1200 page document will be reviewed by ORBA legal council at Ecologic Partners over the next few weeks and comments submitted. In addition, ORBA is working with the Livingston Group in Washington, D.C. through its CMRC relationship to lobby Congress to stop the expansion. We have successfully educated bipartisan Congressional membership in both the House and the Senate on this tremendous loss of OHV recreational opportunity.  To date, ORBA has invested over $70,000 into the approximately $300,000 effort to save Johnson Valley.   • Tin Benders Off-Road Club Donates $10,000 to Help Save Johnson Valley OHV Area.

    TIN BENDERS 4X4 CLUB OF CALIFORNIA (founded in 2000)HELD THEIR 8TH ANNUAL TIN BENDER JAMBOREE BBQ & FUNDRAISER IN JOHNSON VALLEY OHV AREA.

    The United States Marine Corps would like to limit OHV use in Johnson Valley, but a dedicated group of offroaders called the Tin Benders 4×4 Club, whose membership includes families from around the country, hope to stop the Marine base expansion, and are donating funds to help ensure civilians can continue using the largest OHV area in the United States. The Tin Bender Jamboree attracted approximately 400 people and 110 Vehicles were officially registered for the event and therefore eligible for the free prize drawing. Roughly $10,000 was raised for the California Motorized Recreation Council (CMRC), which is leading the fight to save Johnson Valley as a premier destination for off-road motor sports events and family recreation. The Tin Benders $9,500 donation was pushed to $10,000 with a $500 donation from Mike Ruzicka who donated art work for the event T-Shirts. (more…)

  • California Motorized Recreation Council Generates Big Congressional Impact in Attempt to Save 160,000 acre Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area

    The California Motorized Recreation Council (CMRC), an umbrella group of the eight largest Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) associations in California, has organized a national effort to help save the world-renowned Johnson Valley OHV area in California. Mobilizing enthusiasts from across the country, and utilizing its relationship with the Livingston Group of Washington DC, CMRC has succeeded in its efforts to educate Congress about the unbelievable loss of public lands it has experienced since 1978 in the California Desert. The latest loss of opportunity stems from the 29 Palms Marine base expansion into the 160,000 acre Johnson Valley OHV area, which was created as part of the 1980 California Desert Protection Act.
