    Mint 400Fort Mill, SC – March 29, 2012. In front of an estimated crowd of over 25,000 fans, Team GT took to the south Las Vegas desert for the 2012 General Tire Mint 400 over the weekend. The weekend kicked off with the first annual pit crew competition won by none other than Team GT member Rick D. Johnson. With the help of Mikey Childress, Johnson posted a time of just under one minute to beat out General Tire team member Jason Voss for the win. The following night, General Tire helped crown 2012 Miss Mint winner, Vanessa Golub-Ferrara. A fantastic start to the weekend which saw a harsh desert claim many victims throughout the 400-mile race.   • Big Ugly Crashes at 96MPH in The Mint 400

    March 25, 2011–Las Vegas, NV:  At race mile 11.5 of The Mint 400 Kevin Sacalas of Big Ugly Racing experienced a rollover at 96 miles per hour (MPH). While this was Sacalas’ first time racing The Mint 400, he is no stranger to desert racing. Sacalas placed first in the Ultra4 class in the 1000 mile 2009 Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race and second in the 2010 Best in the Desert Silver State 300.

  • Mad Media & Best in The Desert to Produce the Greatest Off-Road Race in the World – The Legendary Mint 400

    General Tire Presents The Mint 400The world-renowned General Tire Mint 400 was recently acquired by The Martelli Brothers – partners in the nationally recognized marketing/production group Mad Media – who have since formed a multi-year partnership with Casey Folks of Best in the Desert to manage the event.  The Mint will now be part of The Best in the Desert American Off-Road Racing Series, but will remain open to privateers.  Hundreds of race teams will compete in twenty different classes of race vehicles at next year’s Mint 400, which will take place the weekend of March 23rd – 25th 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.   • Mike Childress Looks To Build Upon His General Tire SNORE Mint 400 Win At This Weekend’s BITD Silver State 300

    Mike Childress and navigator Jimmy Hook stunned the competition when they bested a talent-rich field of 16 Class 1 Unlimited drivers at this year’s General Tire SNORE Mint 400.  “People were surprised that we beat Harvey Letner and TJ Flores in only our second race in the new THR Motorsports car,” Childress commented after the race, “but we have always known we have what it takes to win.”  Held within view of the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada, “The Great American Desert Race” is regarded as one of the most difficult and prestigious off-road races in the world.  The course features silt beds, miles of rocky moon-hills, sandy washes, high speed graded roads, and the infamous “Rock Garden”.   • Ballistic BJ Baldwin Uses Home Field Advantage To Win 2011 General Tire SNORE Mint 400

    Ballistic BJ Baldwin pushed hard to take the checkered flag at the Mint 400BJ Baldwin came into the 2011 General Tire SNORE Mint 400 with only one goal for the weekend: victory.  After overcoming a host of setbacks to earn a second place finish last year, the only room for improvement for Ballistic BJ was an overall win.  While some series have a drawing for starting position, SNORE holds qualifying to determine starting order.  This allowed Baldwin to rely on his skills instead of the luck of the draw.  The result: a first place qualifying position in his No. 97 General Tire / Monster Energy Unlimited Truck. The top qualifying position earned Baldwin a strategic advantage on the first lap of the four lap race with clean air when the green flag dropped for the 2011 General Tires SNORE Mint 400. (more…)
