Dale Dondel Lays Down Fast Lap At The Method Wheels Time Trials

Clean air and confidence knowing you’re the fastest qualifier out of 77 unlimited vehicles. That’s what racers fought for today at the Mint 400 Method Wheels Time Trails. Sir Dale Dondel came out on top, and will be first off the line at Saturday afternoon’s unlimited race.

Qualifying first for this race not only gets you $5,000 cash, but a head start to the toughest offroad race in America. The advantage isn’t just clean air, but carries with it a mental aspect knowing everyone behind you knows you laid down the fast lap in qualifying.

New for this year: the qualifying loop was set in front of Buffalo Bills Hotel & Casino, giving fans a glimpse of what is to come on race day. Normally qualifying is held deep in the desert and not open to public. BITD and Mad Media made the decision to bring the time trials to the spectators.

What started out as a flat rally type course soon turned into deep sand ruts as 39″ tires and 900 horsepower dug deep, ripping the ground apart. Starting on the short course track, racers transitioned into the dirt behind Buffalo Bills where the course zigzagged on itself before ending at the “Flying Finish” in front of hundreds of spectators.

It was a close finish with Dondel laying down a time of four minutes seven seconds with BJ Baldwin right behind by only one and a half seconds. The first drivers on the course thought the tight turns might give Class 1500 cars an advantage, but the first car qualified 10th in Eduardo Laguna. Only five seconds separated the top 10 cars, so even little mistake really counted on this course.

March 9th, 2015 – Las Vegas, NV – The 2015 Polaris RZR General Tire Mint 400 will storm into Las Vegas March 11th – 14th. An estimated forty thousand off-road racers, fans and enthusiasts are set to descend upon “Sin City” to party, spectate, and celebrate during the four day off-road racing festival of speed! The massive field of competitors makes The Mint 400 the largest off-road race in North America. The Mint was born in 1967, giving it the unique distinction of the oldest and most prestigious off-road race in America. It is now part of the The Best in Desert Championship race series, and continues to grow in fame and attendance, thanks to the vision of the owners – The Martelli Brothers and their dedicated team at Mad Media and The Mint 400 Inc.

“This years Mint 400 is going to be huge! The field is sold out again this year with 330 teams and over 70 on the waiting list. We once again have the most competitive field in off-road racing which will ensure spectacular racing. We have increased our spectating areas to accommodate the massive crowds with the addition of the official Mint 400 Primm Valley Start/Finish Line. We have the biggest TV package in off-road with four and half hours of television including 2 hours on NBC as part of the Red Bull Signature Series. Notable entries to this years Mint 400 battle are returning two-time Mint 400 Champion Andy McMillin, NASCAR and off-road legend Robby Gordon, Las Vegas native and Mint 400 Champion “Ballistic” BJ Baldwin, off-road champion Rob MacCachren, and off-road Champion Tavo Vildosola. Off-Road legend Larry Ragland will serve as Grand Marshal and drop the checkered flag at the start of the race on March 14th at the Mint 400 Primm Valley Start/Finish Line.

The 4 Wheel Parts Mint 400 Vehicle Parade Set to Rumble Down the Las Vegas Strip March 11th at 1:00pm

March 8th, 2015 – San Diego, CA – For the third consecutive year, the world’s toughest off-road race vehicles will parade down world famous Las Vegas Strip during the 4 Wheel Parts Mint 400 Vehicle Parade. This year, the parade will span fourteen miles, beginning at South Point Hotel & Casino and stretch all the way to Fremont Street, officially kicking off the 2015 Polaris RZR Mint 400 presented by General Tire. The massive group of off-road racecars will be led by Off-Road Legend and Mint 400 Champion, “Lightning” Larry Ragland.

Over ten million dollars worth of custom fabricated off-road racecars will be on display, and thunder down the Strip, in tribute to the famed Mint 400 vehicle processions that took place on Fremont Street decades ago. The vehicles are part of a massive field of 330 entries that will compete Saturday, March 14th just outside of Las Vegas at The Great American Off-Road Race.

“Off-road racing is the most exciting and thrilling motorsport on the planet,” said Joshua Martelli, COO and co-owner of The Mint 400. “In 2013, we made history by showcasing these amazing vehicles on the Strip for the people of Las Vegas, and we continue to make improvements each year. The Best Off-Road Pit Crews to Battle Head to Head at the Fourth Annual Mint 400 KMC Wheels Pit Crew Challenge presented by Mystik Lubricants

NEW Pit Crew Challenge Qualifying Round is Open to all Teams and Classes!

March 3rd, 2015 – San Diego, CA – The Mint 400 announced the return of the KMC Wheels Pit Crew Challenge presented by Mystik Lubricants today. This year marks the fourth in a row that the Mint 400 will host the ultimate single-elimination pit crew contest in front of a crowd of thousands of off-road enthusiasts and race team members. The showdown will be held at the all new “Mint 400 Experience” on 10th and Fremont St., directly across the street from Atomic Liquors in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. Qualifying will be held Wednesday March 11th at 5pm, immediately following the 4 Wheel Parts Mint 400 Vehicle Parade. The all or nothing finals will be held Thursday March 12th at 6:30pm, right after the crowning of the new 2015 Miss Mint 400!

The Mint 400 Pit Crew Challenge is a celebration of the dedicated mechanics, volunteers, and pit captains that spend countless hours prepping, maintaining and fixing off-road race vehicles before, during, and after they compete. As the margin between first and second overall winner at The Mint 400 becomes more and more narrow each year – the difference between a championship and second place can literally come down to the speed of one pit stop during the epic race!

New to The Mint 400 this year, and due to the generous support of KMC Wheels and Mystik Lubricants, Wednesday’squalifying event is open to all teams and classes! The Trick Truck (1400) and 1500 Classes will each qualify for four open spots in the main event on Thursday, where they will meet four teams already seeded in the main event. For all other classes, the top two times will be taken to the main event on Thursday, March 12th in a do or die battle to claim the top pit crew in the class!

The Mint 400 and NORRA Partner For Third Annual Vintage “Show N’ Shine”

NORRA Reunites Cars, Trucks and Bikes on Mint 400’s “Memory Lane”

March 5th, 2015 – San Diego, CA – Huge crowds and the sparkling neon of historic downtown Las Vegas will once again serve as a perfect backdrop for off-road racing history to come alive at the upcoming Polaris RZR Mint 400 presented by General Tire. For the third time in as many years, the National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA) will help organize a special Mint 400 “Vintage Show N’ Shine” on Friday, March 13th at the race’s legendary Tech and Contingency day on Las Vegas’ famous Fremont Street. A popular part of the Mint 400 experience, for 2015 NORRA hopes to gather an impressive collection of rolling history in an area known as “Memory Lane.”

NORRA promotes and organizes the annual General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally, a vintage-flavored on and off-road stage rally that runs the length of the Baja peninsula. Scheduled to take place on April 25-29, for 2015 competitors will enjoy a fun-filled journey from Ensenada, Baja Mexico to the world-class resort city of San Jose del Cabo. More than 150 entries are expected to take part in an event fondly known as “The Happiest Race on Earth.”

The list of famous off-road vehicles expected at the 2015 Mint 400 “Show N’ Shine” is expected to include many one-of-a-kind iconic desert racing vehicles – many that competed in the Mint 400 during their heyday.

“While the Mint 400 has once again become the largest and most influential off-road race in America, this race also has an unmatched history that stretches back to 1967,” stated the Mint 400’s CEO Matt Martelli. “Honoring our past via this ongoing relationship with NORRA just makes sense, as they have really been the catalyst to the entire historic off-road racing movement that’s now gaining momentum. I mean what’s cooler than racing vintage off-road vehicles?”
