  • Ultra4 Race Teams Join Forces for Land Use Fundraiser

    BU, RPR, D2R Save JV CheckFebruary 5, 2013, Johnson Valley, CA – The iconic King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley, CA took on new meaning and added opportunity for education and fundraising this year as racers work to keep the area open to public recreation.  The Marine Corps has been trying to annex the land for their use since 2007 under the auspice of training space and increased national security.  Off-roaders including the race teams involved in King of the Hammers are fighting this move and working tirelessly to keep the 146,000 acres there open to public use.  On February 5th DSquared Racing 4441, Big Ugly Racing 4435 and Race Prep Racing 4474 banded together during this year’s race week with a unique and fun idea – let’s sell cups and throw a party and give the money to the cause. Daren Henke of DSquared Racing said, “An event mid week when we are all working so hard to be ready to race just seemed perfect.” (more…)

  • SEMA HAMMERS MESSAGE: SAVE JOHNSON VALLEY OHV RECREATION AREA

    semaTWENTYNINE PALMS, CA. (Feb. 7, 2013) – The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) has joined with the Off-Road Business Association (ORBA) and a coalition of other land use advocacy organizations to keep the Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area open to enthusiasts.

    The Marine Corps wants to expand its base at Twentynine Palms, California to include ownership of nearly 147,000 acres of adjacent land in Johnson Valley in order to conduct large-scale training exercises for one or two months a year.  (more…)

  • Johnson Valley OHV Area Final Environmental Impact Statement has been released.

    ORBA is reviewing the FEIS and working with the California Motorized Recreation Council, and Ecologic Partners on comments.

    The Long awaited Johnson Valley OHV area Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was released last Friday in Washington, D.C.

    The nearly 1200 page document will be reviewed by ORBA legal council at Ecologic Partners over the next few weeks and comments submitted. In addition, ORBA is working with the Livingston Group in Washington, D.C. through its CMRC relationship to lobby Congress to stop the expansion. We have successfully educated bipartisan Congressional membership in both the House and the Senate on this tremendous loss of OHV recreational opportunity.  To date, ORBA has invested over $70,000 into the approximately $300,000 effort to save Johnson Valley. The partnership of Lincoln electric welders and the Torchmate CNC cutting system presents a opportunity to explore the equipment’s full potential by offering attendees of the event a chance to participate in building a hands on interactive art project tailored to The King of the Hammers event. Demonstrations of the Torchmate machines will take place the entire week of the event with Torchmate CNC machines and technicians available to assist race teams who need specialized parts replicated.
