BIRMINGHAM, AL FEBRUARY 28, 2013: Blue Torch Fab Jason Carner took his single seat Ultra4 car to the Southeast Dirt Riot race in Alabama and won just 3 weeks after competing in the King of the Hammers. The vibrant and noticeable blue and white Miller Welders wrap on the car only lasted a short time before being covered with Alabama mud. “It was a good race, and I think if the weather had been better there would have been a better turn out,” said Carner. “It was important to me to go down there and support the W.E. Rock group for bringing this event to our backyard. It is my goal to win this Southeast Series, so this win helps put us on the top to start!” (more…)

Holy Moly Racing George Kane Pushes Limits at 2013 King of the Hammers
LONG BEACH, CA FEBRUARY 25, 2013: Holy Moly Racing and George Kane may not be common names among those at the King of the Hammers, but their intent and enthusiasm put them at the 2012 Smittybilt Every Man Challenge race and this year in the 2013 King of the Hammers. With Bond Gilmer, President of Rebel Offroad, by his side as co-driver this team had one goal in mind: Finish. “Our strategy was to make the car last the entire race. As we headed into the desert we were flying over the whoops, our King Shocks were performing excellent and we started passing other cars,” said Kane. “It wasn’t even 10 minutes into the race and there was a car broken down on the side of the track. Bond kept reminding me ‘make the car last, look someone is already broken down!’ As we continued we came across another broken car, then another and another, there were broken cars everywhere! It was like a pick-a-part lot for Ultra4 cars out there,” laughed George. (more…) -
Lucas Murphy 40 Miles of Fury at 2013 King of the Hammers
NORTH EASTON, MA FEBRUARY 27, 2013: Lucas Murphy designed a brand new car for the 2013 Griffin King of the Hammers. 2012 may have seemed like a quiet year for Murphy’s Law Motorsports, but they placed 3rd at the Ultra4 Rausche Creek Qualifying for KOH, built a new car, and built a toterhome and trailer setup. On the Johnson Valley lakebed this month, they qualified early on Tuesday keeping the car together and sat in the top 10 for most of the day finally settling at the 52nd starting position for Friday’s race. They only made it 40 miles in the King of the Hammers before they limped back to main pit with a transmission failure. “To win, you have to have a perfect day with a proven car. Our short 40 miles was awesome, and really we could have kept going forward, but we didn’t want to jeopardize anyone else’s race. It was pretty uneventful,” said car owner and driver of record Lucas Murphy. (more…) -
W.E. Rock – What it Takes?
While attending any event, it’s easy to think, “I could have coordinated this so much better!” We have all been to some motor sports event, and wondered; “Why did the event planner organize the event this way?” However, have you ever really stopped and thought about what actually goes on behind the scenes of a race or event? This summer 2012, I did just that. I was given the honor of being able to travel all over the U.S. with the organizers and hosts of the W.E. Rock, aka World Extreme Rock Crawling events. With the recent excitement towards the Ultra-4 racing, and advancements of the sport, W.E. Rock decided to add a new event to their season. Dirt Riots are their newest venture and get the drivers not only thinking about how to manage the course, but how to do it in the fastest time as well. It is not a race to the finish line, but an endurance race, and the one who manages to make it through as many laps as possible in 3 hours, wins this new style of racing. (more…)

King Shock’s Drivers Conquer 2013 King of the Hammers
FEBRUARY 21, 2013 – GARDEN GROVE, CA – After a relatively short life span of existence, the annual King of the Hammers (KOH) Ultra4 Race has quickly garnered international recognition with the likes of Baja 1000 and Dakar as being the toughest off road race in the world. A contributing factor in enduring these extremely grueling events is proven off road shock technology. The 2013 KOH race course featured 184 miles of harsh desert terrain and near impassable obstacles however King Shocks’ drivers Randy Slawson and John Currie conquered all on the way to victory. Ultra4 Race Teams Join Forces for Land Use Fundraiser
February 5, 2013, Johnson Valley, CA – The iconic King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley, CA took on new meaning and added opportunity for education and fundraising this year as racers work to keep the area open to public recreation. The Marine Corps has been trying to annex the land for their use since 2007 under the auspice of training space and increased national security. Off-roaders including the race teams involved in King of the Hammers are fighting this move and working tirelessly to keep the 146,000 acres there open to public use. On February 5th DSquared Racing 4441, Big Ugly Racing 4435 and Race Prep Racing 4474 banded together during this year’s race week with a unique and fun idea – let’s sell cups and throw a party and give the money to the cause. Daren Henke of DSquared Racing said, “An event mid week when we are all working so hard to be ready to race just seemed perfect.” (more…)
