To adapt the Dana 300 transfer case with the 700r4 transmission,
the input shaft must be changed with a new one provided in the
Novak kit. It's easy to do. First, remove the input housing from
the transfer case.

Take off the
outer snap ring.

|
I used a 3-jaw
puller from the local AutoZone to pull the gears off the shaft.
Also, warming the gears with a propane torch helps.
|
Next, is another
larger snap ring. |

Next to come
off is the input bearing. I used the torch to warm up (expand) the
bearing and with a little help from the puller it came off easily. |
Here's the correct
disassembly order. Once it's all off, you get to put it all back
on the new shaft on the left. I put mine in the freezer for a half
an hour and in the meantime, used the propane torch to warm the
bearing. It slid right on, no pounding needed. |
