The ORMHOF/Rod Hall Championship Bronco Returns to Baja

On December 15th, 2014, racing legend Rod Hall pulled his championship Bronco from the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF) museum in Reno, Nevada, and into the shop for a full restoration. This April, Hall, who has achieved more podium finishes that any American off-road racer, will slip behind the wheel and again pilot his classic steed down the Baja peninsula in the General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000. Samco Fabrication has developed a new bolt-on skidplate for Spidertrax Spider9 axle housings to add strength and protection to your expensive third member.  The removable third member used in Ford 9” axles makes for easy gear ratio and differential swaps when compared to traditional axle housings, but only if the mounting studs on the housing are not damaged and bent.  Racing and hard recreational use can lead to impacts that damage the studs or even crack the third member, resulting in catastrophic failure. The Ford 9” axle is the go-to axle choice for applications as varied as drag racing and desert racing.  While short sprints down the drag strip do not heat up the differential excessively, extended use under the harsh conditions found in desert racing, King of the Hammers-type events, short course racing, and road racing can result in increased pressure that pushes the pinion seal out of the front of the case.  Samco Fabrication has a simple, yet elegant solution in their new bolt-on 9” seal retainer.
