I'm a newbie looking for my first truck and I run across this thing and it looks like it's been professionally built I just wondering if you guys could help me with the pros and cons of what this thing will do won't do-. I can get it for $5,000 cash and I think it's well worth it but I'm not sure and I was hoping you guys would help me out

Thank you woody - the 44 is definitely better than the stock 8 inch isn't it ??

How do these Toyotas do rock crawling ? Are they sought after or shunned by the rock crawling circle ??

Plenty of toyotas out there crawlin the trails. I'd say they are still really popular out here in california.

The D44 is typically thought of as weaker than a toyota minitruck axle. The D44 ring and pinion are larger than a toy 8", but the advantage of the aftermarket birfield joints more than make up for that. The D44 aftermarket axle shafts don't even come close. In the end the Toy minitruck axle is a really good bang for the buck and weight to strength axle.

I would look over the quality of the work. Seems like anyone will to run different wheels will have cut corners in other places too. Depending on you skill level some things are harder to fix than others. I agree the price seems right.

Chromo axles in the Dana 44 add to its strength and should hold up ok under that truck with those tires. Just keep the wheels on the ground (no bouncing or jumping) and be mindful of when its bound up.

Looks like a solid parts list for sure for the price. You can probably put the D44 with the ARB on marketplace and have a good chunk of change for a 9" front axle. Check out 609 axle builds and start with a 9" front housing with some 05+ super duty outers. Put some 39s and aluminum wheels on it to lighten it up some and it should be good to go.
