@midwestracer Its been holding up great in the last year or so. It wheeled Windrock for a week, K2 and Wolf Caves a handful of times, Arizona for a week, Hot Springs a few time and its been holding up great for the most part....until i windowed the block in the LV3. It was my fault. I bought a...
Looks like a solid parts list for sure for the price. You can probably put the D44 with the ARB on marketplace and have a good chunk of change for a 9" front axle. Check out 609 axle builds and start with a 9" front housing with some 05+ super duty outers. Put some 39s and aluminum wheels on it...
Whats the theory about not overlapping in a higher ratio? I know im regularly not in Third/Fourth L when doing anything technical. And im only in high on the park roads. I figured 1st/2nd low range are the most important crawl ratios to look at. Just curious.
Mine is a simple panel with 3 gauges (water/trans temp and oil pressure). The plug on the bottom is a usb charging port that also shows the volts, so thats my volts gauge. I also can use an app on my phone that uses a OBD2 bluetooth dongle to an app called FourStroke. It lets me clear any codes...
I would like to report that i have successfully wheeled two full weekend without my transmission pump exploding. Hopefully my days of blowing transmissions are a thing of the past. We spent the long holiday weekend wheeling some granite at Wolf Caves in Mason. Good times were had. We only broke...
Did a little front end refresh with some patina fenders. It really changes the look of the rig and i love it. I may end up fitting a hood on it as well.
Its about 7 for us. Its worth the drive. Id say you can hit all of it in about 3 days. Good thing is that Clayton is only 45 mins away and you can hit up Green Aces as well. Similar rock, but RMR has bigger stuff and nice water/RV hookups. Id make a week out of it and hit both parks.
RMR trip report. Transmission pump has help up so far. No issues there. I bumped up the pressure in the shocks and for once, the didnt bottom out or settle. They are now sitting around the 4" uptravel mark which i feel is perfect. No breakage from anyone in the group which seldom happens...
yesterday i picked up the rebuilt TCI piece of shit converter from a local rebuilder. Its now true on both ends, so hopefully no more problems.
Last night i got the trans and t-case stabbed back in. I will let the RTV dry today and add fluid tonight to see if everything works. Its 95% put...
I love my switch pros panel in my rig. It runs everything. You can combine multiple switches into one. There are 17 outputs on the RCR-12 panel. 4x heavy duty amp switches. The app is awesome and is where you set everything up. It has bluetooth. Made in the USA. Tech support is top notch. You...
Try putting a 1/2" ratchet (or larger) on the bolt with a cheater pipe extension on the frame rail, then bump it with the starter. That should remove the bolt if a long cheater wont.
Can you increase you vertical separation at the axle? Its less than what is at the frame. Looks to be only 4.5". Rule for separation at the axle is 25% of your tire height, but thats damn near impossible most of time. Especially with portals id imagine. Can you increase to 7-8"? My new rig is in...
The 700r4 also has the 3 clicks. Im sure its fully seated when installed in the trans. The converter repair place is going to lengthen the snout so i dont need the bushing/spacer. I can trim it as needed to fit my custom application. I also ordered a new LT specific swap flexplate that has the...
I think i found the culprit. I dropped the converter off at a converter repair place to check runout and as soon as he threw it on the lathe you could immediately see the problems. Yes problems as in plural. First, the the two converter case halves were welded on severely out of tolerance. This...
I hope the pump failure didnt trickle down to other parts of the transmission. I am having a buddy tear it down and do an inspection on it. We will see.
Ive heard mixed results about TCI and Monster lately. All QC issues it seems. I really dont want to spend another $5-6k on a transmission.
Welp, broke a second pump inside the transmission (i think). This time it was a billet one in the 700r4. It took out the snout of the torque converter while it was at it. Now im trying to figure out why. Is it the TCI constant pressure reverse manual valve body? Is it a bad TCI out of balance...
If its a factory dash, the ecm is behind the glove box. You need to pull the plastic box out and its up high against the bottom of the dash. At least thats where they are on the tacomas and 4runners of that generation.
I went back to the pressures i ended up with on the lighter weight oil to start with. 85psi front and 60 psi rear. This is about 4.5" shaft all the way around. Ill wheel it this week to see if they settle some. Id like to be in the 3.5-4" range.
Hmmm thats odd. Did you drop some oil in each cylinder before you did the compression test, or were they dry? I dont a good running engine will lose compression after sitting for a few years. Something else doesnt seem right.
I had a 3rz ecu try to run a tacoma but wouldnt ever start it...
Did an oil change on the shocks before the next trip. I removed the shocks and changed out the 4.5wt (i think) oil with 10wt Honda Fork oil. These 16" Radflos call for 700ml of fluid and i added about 25 extra to help with bottoming out. Im glad i changed the oil as one of my rear upper shock...
Texas Top Gun Shootout did not disappoint. I got to the park on Wednesday to get a prime camping spot before the crowd showed up. Rained most of the day Thursday. Wheeled Friday and checked out the courses. Saturday watched and ran the qualifying course and DQ'd right at the end. Sunday was the...
