About W.E. Rock

The sport of World Extreme Rock Crawling or W.E. ROCK as it is known to our fans is all about challenging driver and machine. Competitors build amazing vehicles to drive over the most extreme obstacles our world renowned course designers can dream up. You will see vehicles perform maneuvers you never thought possible. Conquering large boulders, steep climbs, rock ledges and massive drops, all while avoiding strategically placed cones. Depending on the class the competitors choose to compete in their vehicle must follow some basic build rules and safety requirements. The rules are designed to keep each class fair while allowing the builder freedom to engineer the most competitive vehicle they can. Once on the course the driver and spotter have 10 minutes to navigate 3-4 gates (set of cones) without hitting any cones and as few backups as possible. Each cone hit or backup they take adds points to their score and the team with the lowest score wins. The courses are designed to provide the most action for the spectators throughout the weekend and force drivers to push what they have built to the limits.

The NitroGear WE Rock Western Round 2, presented by Maxxis was held at the Sand Hollow Resort and sponsored by Sand Hollow Offroad, in Hurricane, Utah. They don’t call it Hurricane for nothing, each afternoon, the winds howled.

The action started on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 on a golf course of all places. I never thought we would be able to go rock crawling on the side of a golf course, haven’t they met us ‘offroaders’? This is one of the coolest locations I have been for a rock crawling event. The courses were laid out inside a natural amphitheater so you could sit in the center and watch all the obstacles. The steep flowing sandstone terrain provided the pro classes major challenges that had competitors scratching their heads at first. Rich "Big" Klein made competitors think outside the box to be able to cleanly navigate the course. This also made them really think about their strategy for each course and really watch the competitors up first to see if they needed to change their strategy.

Scores were very close all weekend long, Jesse Haines took first place with an insane maneuver during the Shoot Out. Pulling the front of the rig through the gate with a steep drop then driving up hill and crab walked through gate, to back down the hill. Check out all the scores at werocklive.com

The Golf Course loved having WE Rock on their rocks and should be back next year. If you did not make it this year the Sand Hollow WE Rock event is going to one not to miss in 2019.
