Project: Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area Eagle Scout Fencing Project
Location: Pennsylvania
Description: From September 12th to 14th, a dedicated group of 16 volunteers, including friends and family members, came together to support an Eagle Scout Project at the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA). The team successfully constructed and installed 165 feet of safety and environmental fencing along an overlook trail to prevent falls from onlookers and protect sensitive vegetation.
In addition to the fencing installation, volunteers cleared fallen trees and restored the retaining wall at the nearby historic “old coal mine spring,” reinforcing both the safety and environmental integrity of the area.
This project not only enhanced trail safety but also contributed to the preservation of AOAA’s natural and historical features. The BFGoodrich Tires Outstanding Trails Grant Program generously provided funding for fencing materials, making this impactful community effort possible.
Thank you to the partners who made this possible:
“I’m so thankful for the funding support from BFGoodrich Tires that enabled me to be able to complete this Eagle Scout project and to improve the safety and beauty of this overlook area. The folks at Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area were pleased with the outcome of all of our work.”- Archie Kautz, Eagle Scout Candidate
“Thank you to our partner BFGoodrich Tires Outstanding Trails Grant program providing the funding to make this Eagle Scout project a reality. These funds helped support a Scouting America Eagle Scout project, while also helping to execute an important safety fence that keeps visitors safe and protects the vegetation in this area of AAOA Off-Road Park. Also, thank you to our Tread Lightly! member, Kyle from Off-Road Consulting, for the oversight and boots on the ground to make this project a reality.”- Lowell Eckart, Southeast Program Manager, Tread Lightly!
