Project: Black Ridge Fencing Project-Easter Jeep Safari 2024
Location: Moab, Utah

Description: This project was made possible thanks to the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

On March 27, 2024, 12 volunteers joined Tread Lightly! for its second project of three to improve off-road trails in Moab, Utah.

Volunteers met south of Moab, on an access road on Highway 191 to the La Sal Mountains, to install a smooth wire cattle fence between the access road and private property that has been used as a turnaround point.

Volunteers paced out the 220 feet of fencing and set the poles. After a lot of laughs and a little sweat, they had driven all the posts and were ready to string the wire. Quality control did a great job keeping it all in a straight line. Just up the road, volunteers also repaired a water gate under a bridge by repositioning poles and wire fencing.

We had the pleasure of meeting the landowner who spoke of his frustration with the misuse of his land and offered genuine gratitude for work that was being completed. This project was an amazing example of forging a relationship with our off-road community and private landowners to keep access open for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to the partners who made this possible:

“This project was a great example of the unique relationship between private and public land management and how we as recreationists need to work together to protect access to both. Thank you to our volunteers, SEMA, and our local landowner who worked with the offroad community to make this happen.”-Evan Robins, Tread Lightly! National Stewardship Program Manager
