Project: Buckhorn OHV Fence Repair
Project
Location: Oregon

Description: On Friday December 20, 2024, a group of 12 volunteers helped to repair and reconstruct a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) fence line near Buckhorn OHV in Central Oregon that help delineate trails for motorized use. This stewardship project was funded by a donation from Bronco Wild Fund, and most volunteers were a part of Central Oregon Adventure Riders.

Thank you to the following partners for their support:

“The work along N.W. Kingwood Drive and Buckhorn Road is funded by a grant from Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, The purpose of the grant is to decommission various unofficial routes that access the Buckhorn OHV trail system, which will improve the trail rider’s experience and public safety along those roads. The unofficial routes also have been regularly used for dumping trash and construction materials. Migratory corridors are preserved by using smooth wire on the top and bottom sections of fencing, which allows for safe passage for animals that will either cross over or under the fencing. Work has been supported by various local organizations such as Tread Lightly!, Deschutes County Four Wheelers, and Crooked River Ranch ATV Riders.”- Daniel Shaneyfelt, Outdoor Recreational Planner with the BLM

“The fence reconstruction at Buckhorn OHV recreation is meant to set a border around a very popular area of OHV trails to prevent man-made trails as well as trash and material dumping, something which has dramatically increased in OHV areas within the last five years, In under two hours, our volunteers had the entire fence repaired, a true testament to what dedication to our lands can produce. Thank you to the Bronco Wild Fund for supporting our work, as well as to Central Oregon Adventure Riders for rallying members to help keep an area they love to recreate intact and safe for riders.”-Grace Schuessler, Tread Lightly! Oregon Program Manager
