Project: Franklin Basin Kiosk Project
Location: Utah
Description: On the morning of August 23, 2025, five volunteers and representatives from the Logan Ranger District gathered for a trail improvement project of the Franklin Basin Road in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
The focus of the project was the construction and installation of two new informational kiosks designed to enhance visitor knowledge, safety, and stewardship. The first kiosk, a double-panel structure, was assembled to showcase an updated area map alongside important recreation tips aimed at improving both the enjoyment and safety of visitors exploring the basin.
The second kiosk, a single-panel installation, highlights a revised trail map paired with guidelines to help users respectfully share the trail with horsemen.
These kiosks are intended not only to guide and educate visitors but also to foster a stronger sense of stewardship and responsibility toward the land. The success of this project was made possible through the collaboration and commitment of our volunteers, the Backcountry Horsemen, and partners at the Logan Ranger District.
Thank you to the partners who made this possible:
“The project was a true community effort—volunteers, horsemen, and forest staff all worked side by side to improve the experience for visitors. Seeing everyone come together to complete the kiosks reminded us of the power of collaboration and the shared love we have for these public lands.”- Erik Skabelund USFS Recreation Specialist
