Project: Bronco Wild Fund – Salmon-Challis Kiosk Project
Location: Valley Creek, Idaho

Description:
With generous support from Bronco Wild Fund, eight Bronco Drivers and Tread Lightly! along with the Salmon-Challis Ranger District and Idaho Parks and Recreation worked to install new interpretive rider education kiosks in the Cape Horn area near Stanley, Idaho.
This unique trail system is nestled at the doorstep to the Sawtooth Wilderness Area. One of the most picturesque locations in the world and a highly visited recreation area in central Idaho. During the 2-day event, the volunteers were supported by U.S. Forest Service, Idaho Parks and Recreation, Tread Lightly! Team to ensure this trails system stays open for future use and has the appropriate rider education and mapping information to keep tires on the trail and public lands open to motorized recreation.
This project supported a 12-mile loop of motorized trail that is part of a much bigger trail system including hundreds of miles of designated trail and forest roads. Projects like this embody the Bronco spirit of adventure and “Built Wild” while bringing great people together to do great things for public lands and sustainable motorized access.

Feedback:
“Many hands make light work, and through collaborations like these with many partners, we can make light work of important projects such as these kiosks.”-Brian Delainge, East Region Trail Specialist, Idaho Park and Recreation

“The Tread Lightly! collaboration with the Bronco Wild Fund has made so much positive work possible. We were excited to be part of bringing the Bronco Wild Fund to Idaho and making a positive impact in the Salmon-Challis National Forest.”-Matt Caldwell, Executive Director, Tread Lightly!

“With a generous financial contribution from Tread Lightly! assistance from Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, Idaho Falls Overlanding, Ford Motor Company and many Forest Service employees, construction and placement of a new kiosk commenced at the Valley Creek Trailhead on June 9th and 10th. The previous kiosk had been in disrepair for many years and needed replaced. This fall another kiosk will be placed at Knapp Creek Trailhead to replace the dilapidated bulletin board currently there.” –Phil McNeal, South Zone Trail Coordinator, Salmon-Challis National Forest

“We absolutely loved participating in the Valley Creek Project, installing new kiosks. Kiosks are an important part of trails as they supply valuable information to visitors, this may include a map of the immediate area and T.R.E.A.D. Principles. Having a Tread Lightly! presence on the kiosk will also remind outdoor enthusiasts of best practices. It was really great seeing individuals from various organizations come together to support this project. When we all come together, we will make a difference. I can’t wait to participate in the next project.”-Alexandria Lewis, Owner, IF Overlanding
