• Scherer Dominates at ULTRA 4 MetalCloak Nor Cal Stampede

    PRAIRIE CITY SVRA, CA APRIL 9th, 2013: More than 2,000 fans attended the inaugural ULTRA4 MetalCloak Nor Cal Stampede held at the Prairie City State Park near Sacramento, CA last weekend.  Over the course of two days and multiple heats, 48 ULTRA4 cars waged battle on a brutal two mile course that left only 29 vehicles running by the final two races. Drivers pushed their cars to the limit in this first race of the 2013 ULTRA4 Trail Gear Western Regional series in pursuit of both a podium finish and a chance to qualify for the 2014 Griffin King of The Hammers Presented by Nitto Tire.  Ultimately, two former Kings and the son of a King claimed the podium.  2009 King of The Hammers, Jason Scherer took the checkered flag followed closely by 2010 King, Loren Healy, and third place went to the youngest King of the Hammers competitor to date, 17 year old Wayland Campbell, the son of the only two-time King, Shannon Campbell.   • ORBA BOARD INVADES MOAB

    The Off Road Business Association help its first open Board of Directors meeting in many years at the 2013 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab Utah. Timed during the Industry show the event was well attended by industry leaders. While not open to the general public, the meeting was broadcast over the public address system so that all in attendance could listen in. Topics included the Johnson Valley OHV Fight with news of official support from Congressman Cook announced after a mid day phone conversation with ORBA President Fred Wiley. Wiley reported that Congressman Cook would be exploring the Alternative 4 Hybrid  proposed by the Save The Hammers effort within the California Motorized Recreation Council. (more…)

  • Jason Scherer WINS Ultra4 Stampede Race at Home Track in Sacramento

    Jason Scherer Stampede 3DANVILLE, CA   APRIL 8, 2013   Jason Scherer wins the first race in the Ultra4 Trail Gear Western Series, the MetalCloak NorCal Stampede, at Prairie City SVRA on Saturday April 6th.   After finishing first in his pre-qualification heat race on Friday, he ran home to Danville, CA to replace and rebuild his differential before the main race on Saturday.  Showing up just hours before the green flag, he started in the second row of the main and by the first lap was already leading the race putting on a very impressive show for the crowd that included many of his family and friends.  “I am so excited to win this race!  Not only is it a win for me and my core sponsors including Rubicon Express, Nitto Tires and PSC Steering, but also to be able to share it with all my family and friends at a local to home track is awesome!” said Jason Scherer, driver of the Rubicon Express #76 car at the awards ceremony on Saturday evening.  “The track was a lot of fun and I am really excited to be able to come back to this new venue.  Not only is it great racing, but it is nice to be close to home!”

  • ORBA FIGHTING TO KEEP TRAILS OPEN NEAR MOAB, UTAH

    ORBA is working with a number of local and national organizations to protect motorized recreation in southern Utah.  President Obama is under pressure to designate 1.4 million acres of land in Utah as a National Monument.  The area surrounds Canyonlands National Park near Moab, Utah and is referred to as “Greater Canyonlands.”  There is no widespread local or Congressional support for the designation, which could threaten to close off-highway vehicle (OHV) use and shared access.     Dirt Riot 4.13PLACERVILLE, CA   APRIL 10, 2013:  The Dirt Riot Central Series continues to draw professional racers, local 4×4 club members and UTV racers to form a 2013 series that is already heavily contested in all classes this year.  This weekend, the 2013 Dirt Riot Central Series second of three races will be at Coppermines Offroad Park on Saturday April 13th, with racing starting at 9am.  “We are excited to be back at the Coppermines Park, it always has so much to offer for the racers and spectators that we really enjoy our time there.  There was some strong weather at the beginning of the week which helped water down the track, and since it has improved to what should be mid-70’s and clear by the weekend,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events.  “The course this year will include more of the park, and the post party on Saturday night at the onsite Red Dawg Saloon should be a ton of fun with a live band.” (more…)
