    Back in 1964, a small group of four-wheelers came up with the idea of creating a fundraising event for the newly formed California Association of 4WD Clubs. It would need to be a first-rate venue similar to the then-famous Jeepers Jamboree on the Rubicon.  The chosen route was a long-abandoned wagon road from Cisco Grove, California (near Truckee), to the shores of Meadow Lake and the 1860’s mining camp of Summit City.  The event was called Sierra Trek, and it would become one of the West’s premier destinations for family fun, great food, and some of the best trails in the country.     The 2016 Sierra Trek: Come for the trail, stay for the party!

    Back in 1964, a small group of Jeepers got the idea of creating a fundraising event for the newly formed California Association of 4WD Clubs (CA4WDC). It would need to be a first-rate event similar to the then-famous Jeepers Jamboree on the Rubicon. Sacramento Jeepers member Ed Dunkley, an encyclopedia of knowledge on Sierra Nevada history and old mining routes, gathered a few folks and began searching for a suitable trail. The chosen route was a long-abandoned wagon road from Cisco Grove, California (near Truckee), to the shores of Meadow Lake and the 1860’s mining camp of Summit City. It had been decades since the “road” had been used, and Mother Nature had played her hand at reclaiming the land. (more…)

    2014_CA4WDC_Sweepstakes_Jeep_001For the past 30 years, the California Association of 4WD clubs (CA4WDC) has purchased a Jeep, modified it for real-world four wheeling, and raffled it off for less than the cost of a jumbo mocha. The tradition continues this year with a 2014 4-door Jeep JK Wrangler, custom prepared for overland adventure travel.

    This year’s Jeep was given a total makeover by MetalCloak Industries, who fitted it with their high-clearance fenders, MetalCloak Game Changer suspension with Old Man Emu shocks, and heavy-duty Rocker bumpers. A Superchip motivated Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 distributes power to a Dynatrac front axle, front and rear Eaton electric locking differentials, Sierra Gear ring & pinion gears, and G2 axles. Reid steering knuckles control a set of BFGoodrich Mud Terrains mounted on Raceline wheels, and the undercarriage, including a Magnaflow exhaust system, is protected by Rock Hard skid plates. Safety/recovery equipment includes a Warn Zeon 8000 winch, Factor 55 ProLink, PowerTank, and Rock Hard cage, and LED lighting from Rigid, Olympus, and Two Guys Trail Gear. Other enhancements include an AEV snorkel and hood, Kargo Master roof rack, ARB Fridge/Freezer and Simpson III roof top tent, and Daystar Cam Cans.

    Don’t worry if you don’t win the Jeep, runner-up prizes will include an Atlas II transfercase from Advanced Adapters.
