RENO,NV    DECEMBER 17, 2010: Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) threw the checker flag on its 35th desert racing season with an exceptional group of racers competing in four short course races and four desert races.  Sam Berri was awarded the Overall Season Title at the end of the year Awards Banquet and Ceremony, held at Harveys Lake Tahoe on December 11, 2010.  “This is what I called a ‘Break the Mold’ year.  We made a lot of big changes, took a lot of risks, and I know the racers appreciated the outcome on and off the track,” said Wes Harbor Director of the VORRA Series. 2010 10 VORRA1 300x199 VORRA Halloween Bash Short Course Race at Prairie City OHV RENO,NV    OCTOBER 25, 2010: VORRA’s final weekend of the 2010 Season will be October 30-31 at Prairie City OHV Area in Folsom, CA.  Join hundreds of racers, spectators and crews for a full day of truck and car racing on Sunday.  Saturday will host a day of ATV racing and in the evening there will a Costume BBQ Party and Kids Pumpkin Carving Contest.

The season points battle continues to be close, with this one short course race remaining to crown the overall winners.  After the last round, Sam Berri pulled away in the lead with Mike Koenig in second only 16 points behind.  Red Team Racing maintained their third overall position and first place in their class.  It looks like all of the classes have some battles going on, but Class 10 will certainly come down to the final round to determine the winner. Wheel to Wheel Racing at VORRA Short Course

2010 10 VORRA 300x199 Wheel to Wheel Racing at VORRA Short Course RENO,NV    OCTOBER 18, 2010:   With a full weekend of warm California sun shining down on the Prairie City OHV Park, round seven of short course racing had the crowd on their feet cheering.  The track was slightly different at the newly renovated park adding some more mileage to the loop and increasing the overall speeds.

Sunday’s Car and Truck racing had the pits full of powerful vehicles.  Each race was a battle, but there were clean sweeps by Sam Berri in Class 1, Patrick Timmons in Class 10, Brad Falin in Ultra 4, Gary Herrod in Class 11, Jay Schroeder in Class 9 and Tim Compton in the Pilots.  They all impressively took top honors in all three motos for their respective class wins.  Each moto consisted of six intense laps to make it to the checker flag first. Susan Austin Finishes First Ever Desert Race

2010 09 VORRA SusanAustin 300x199 Susan Austin Finishes First Ever Desert Race RENO, NV   SEPTEMBER 28, 2010 – Susan Austin finished the first desert race she has ever entered at the VORRA Hawthorne 225 race on September 5th.   “I have been told by the best, including Rod Hall, that to win a race you must first complete the race.  My goal for this first race was just to finish, and I am so excited that I did!” said Susan Austin, who IronWomaned the entire 225 miles.

After attending the VORRA Xtreme Outlaw race in June, she decided that she wanted to start racing.  “It just looks like so much fun,” said Susan Austin.  “I don’t know how old women are that take up this sport, but at 60 to take it up I think this is amazing…  I imagine most ladies take up knitting, I don’t think I will ever do that!” Read More→

Perfect Weekend at the VORRA Hawthorne 225 Desert Race

2010 09 VORRA Hawthorne 300x199 Perfect Weekend at the VORRA Hawthorne 225 Desert RaceRENO,NV    SEPTEMBER 8, 2010: The VORRA Hawthorne 225 desert race Labor Day Weekend was a great success.  There were over 40 entries with more than half finishing in a perfectly executed desert race.  The weekend also included a parade of off road desert cars through downtown Hawthorne, and the movie premier of Dezert People 8 at the El Capitan Lodge and Casino. The Hawthorne 225 is the fourth desert race in the 2010, eight race VORRA series that includes an additional four short course races.

Wes Harbor, VORRA Director, took the opportunity at the mandatory drivers meeting to reinforce BLM’s commitment to help promoters be successful while enforcing new safety procedures.  There was not one incident over the course of the whole weekend. Read More→

2010 08 VORRA Hawthorne 300x199 Labor Day Weekend VORRA Hawthorne 225 Desert RaceParade through Downtown, Dezert People 8 Movie Premier

RENO,NV    AUGUST 31, 2010: The VORRA Hawthorne 225 desert race Labor Day Weekend will include a parade through downtown Hawthorne and the movie premier of Dezert People 8 at the El Capitan Lodge and Casino on Saturday September 4th.  The race will start Sunday morning at 8am.  The Hawthorne 225 is the fourth desert race in the 2010, eight race VORRA series that includes an additional four short course races.

“The Hawthorne 225 track has some gnarly sections with a couple of rough spots on the north end and some very deep silt beds.  The roller coaster section is free of wash outs this year on the backside and is going to be a blast,” said Wes Harbor, VORRA Director.  The course is a 55-mile loop that drivers must complete 4 times to finish within the allotted time frame. 2010 07 VORRA 300x199 Chris Ridgway Misses Win by 34 Seconds at VORRA Desert RaceHe Prepares for 2010 X-Games as Reigning Gold Medalist

APPLE VALLEY, CA – July 21, 2010:  Chris Ridgway participated in last weekends VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) Fallon 250 desert race in the Trent Fab buggy and placed 2nd by a mere 34 seconds.  “It was a fast course, and we had no issues until the last lap when we got a flat.  When we got out to change it, we had lost the tool kit that had the lug wrench in it!  We jumped back in and had to run 20 miles on the Raceline Wheel to the next pit where one of our competitor’s pit crews changed it for us,” said Ridgway.  “While in the pits, we got passed for the lead and had to drive the last 10 miles at warp speed, but it wasn’t enough.” Read More→

RENO, NV   JUNE 22, 2010:  Despite all obstacles, VORRA produced an epic race over Father’s Day Weekend, June 17th – 20th, 2010. The Xtreme Outlaws 250 race started with the Grand Sierra Leap then paraded down Interstate 80 to the green flag where they went into the wild desert for four laps of brutal and fresh terrain.  Class winners Chuck Dempsey, Patrick Timmons, Gary Herrod, Mike Shaffer, Jay Schroeder, Greg Jones, Vince Viola, Kevin Yoder, Terry Shelton and Dennis Jean made their way through the Nevada desert to complete one of the toughest VORRA races yet.
