Samco Fabrication has developed a new bolt-on skidplate for Spidertrax Spider9 axle housings to add strength and protection to your expensive third member. The removable third member used in Ford 9” axles makes for easy gear ratio and differential swaps when compared to traditional axle housings, but only if the mounting studs on the housing are not damaged and bent. Racing and hard recreational use can lead to impacts that damage the studs or even crack the third member, resulting in catastrophic failure.The Samco Fabrication skidplate is the only product of its kind designed specifically to compliment the increased ground clearance offered by Spidertrax Spider9 fabricated axle housings. The precision crafted skidplates are fabricated from 3/16-inch zinc-coated steel and mount to three existing bolts on the front pinion support and two supplied tabs that are welded to the back of the housing to act as a girdle and add strength to the entire axle assembly.
While it does not fit high pinion third members, Samco’s Spider9 skidplate does fit traditional third members and is considered essential for anyone running a Spider9 in desert race or rockcrawling environments.
