FOX Shocks Dominate 2020 SCORE Baja 1000

15 of 25 4-wheel vehicle classes won by FOX drivers

El Cajon, CA – November 24, 2020 – FOX-equipped vehicles swept several classes and took overall victory at the recent SCORE Baja 1000, cementing the manufacturer’s dominance in the toughest and longest continuously-held desert race in the world. Luke McMillin and co-driver Larry Roeseler piloted their #83 vehicle to first overall and first in the Trophy Truck class, with FOX athletes claiming 15 of the top 25 relevant classes.

“This year’s race will be marked as one of the toughest loop courses ever and we’re proud to say that FOX shocks held up to the abuse, taking home wins in nearly all classes,” FOX’s new Director of Motorsports Bobby Smith said. “With nearly half the field failing to finish, the victorious FOX drivers are a testament to the performance and durability baked into our technology. Consumers can feel good about the fact that this translates into the products they get to drive on or off-road. Congratulations and thank you to all racers that choose FOX in their pursuit to conquer the brutal Baja desert and rise to the top of the podium.

“A special congratulations to Luke McMillin on earning his first Baja 1000 overall win along with his teammate and Baja legend, Larry Roeseler,” Smith added. “It was only a matter of time before he finally achieved that goal, and we are honored that he chose FOX to help get him there.”

    The Event

Many of the world’s best desert racers flexed their muscles at this year’s BFGoodrich Tires 53rd SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts, which started and finished in Ensenada, Baja California November 22. One hundred eighty-five vehicles toed the start line, with racers from nearly 30 U.S. States and 15 countries. By the end, just 99 racers finished.

    The Course

This year’s SCORE Baja 1000 was a loop race of 898.40 miles in the northern state of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. The distance was a race-record for a SCORE Baja loop race. It started for the 46th time and finish for the 27th time in Ensenada, a coastal city on the Bahia de Todos Santos area of the Pacific Ocean, 80 miles south of the U.S. border at San Diego.

“It was a great day,” McMillin said at the finish line. “Larry did an amazing job; he just kept it in line and had no downtime, which is exactly what you need to do in the first half of the SCORE Baja 1000. He brought me a clean truck; we were third and were right up there with the top leaders when I got in. We got some gnarly silt and some tough bumps out there. It’s hard to pick up your pace in a 1,000-mile race and don’t beat up the truck too much, so we tried to be strategic on that. It was a tough course, but a great course.” McMillin drove the second 430-mile leg to the checkered for a finishing time of 19 hours 10 minutes 24 seconds.

    The Results

    • FOX drivers claimed 8 of the top 10 4-wheeled vehicles, including a sweep of the top 4 in the premier SCORE Trophy Truck class:
      • 1st – Luke McMillin & Larry Roeseler
      • 2nd – Rob MacCachren & Josh Daniel
      • 3rd – Bryce Menzies & Andy McMillin
      • 4th – Cameron Steele & Bobby Pecoy
    • FOX also swept the top 5 positions in in Class 1 with Cody Parkhouse taking the win, while Jimco Racing Inc. CEO Robbie Pierce claimed victory in the SCORE TT Legends class;
    • In Trophy Truck spec, Dan Fresh and Jeff Bader finished first in class and 7th overall along with FOX Motorsports Tuner Mike Kim and Service Technician Erick Rivera as navigators;
    • FOX-equipped UTV’s swept all four UTV classes, took the top 5 in the Forced Induction class, the top 4 in the Naturally Aspirated class, and claimed the top 10 positions of all UTV classes combined:
      • Pro UTV FI & UTV overall winner – Wes Miller
      • Pro UTV NA winner – Francisco Arredondo
      • Pro UTV Unlimited winner – Eliott Watson
      • Pro Stock UTV winner – Carolina Sanchez
    • In total, FOX-equipped vehicles claimed 15 class wins and 26 podium positions across all 25 4-wheel-vehicle classes.

Additionally, three FOX UTV drivers soloed the entire race (Adrian Orellana, Marc Burnett and Kristen Matlock), in the car for over 26 hours or more. Good suspension definitely helps and prevents driver fatigue.

The race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one-hour special on the ABC TV Network’s World of X Games programming. First airing is set for Jan. 3, 2021 on ESPN2. It is being produced by SCORE in association with award-winning BCII TV of Los Angeles. Announcer is Hall of Fame racer and FOX athlete Cameron Steele. Complete SCORE Baja 1000 race results here.

4WP Nitto Tire Nationals event information Oct 23 and 24

It’s time to battle it out for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

What an insane year. If there is anything Ultra4 racers are known for, however, it’s the ability to adapt, overcome, and finish… in every circumstance. #NeverQuit is more than just a hashtag, it’s how we race.
One of the adaptations for this year has been a change of venue for our final Nationals event of the year. We are thrilled to be back in Davis, Oklahoma (with no tornados this time) at the Cross Bar Ranch! Fantastic venue and JT Taylor has prepared a killer racecourse in a fitting end to the season.
Please read below for more information and details regarding the 2020 4WP Nitto Tire Nationals!
    Registration

Online driver registration is STILL OPEN and will be available online through midnight PT on Tuesday, Oct 21st. Onsite registration will also be available, but there is an additional $100 surcharge for onsite registration.
Registration is a different online link this year and it’s not too late to register. Click HERE.
Another unique factor to Nationals 2020 is the that ANYONE can race in this event, even if it’s your first race of the year. The “First Round On Us” promotion does apply for Nationals.
The caveat: If Nationals IS your first race of 2020, it will NOT count towards KOH 2021 eligibility. If you aren’t already qualified, you will have to go through the LCQ process to race the 4400 class.

    Awards & Banquet
Both race and season awards will be presented at Cross Bar Ranch, beginning at 7 PM on Saturday night, Oct 24th. We will award the race event trophies, then do a quick set change and present the National Points Awards, also on site.
In lieu of a sit down banquet this year, we’re going to have a huge party with BBQ and friends and family. Less formal than in years past, but no less honoring of the season achievements. Awards will be broadcast via livestream as usual.
Driver’s and Co-Drivers will receive a wristband for the BBQ dinner as a part of their race entry, courtesy of Nitto Tire. Additional wristbands for crew and family will be available onsite for purchase.
EVERYONE is invited to celebrate the season and your accomplishments. The wristband are only for the BBQ portion. Please plan to join us Saturday night in celebrating victories, accomplishments, and the end of 2020!
Camping | Lodging | Tickets | Covid Guidelines
Each race team will have a standard pit area allocated (roughly 20 x 80 like normal regional races). In that pit area you have room for your race car, trailer, and an RV or two depending upon how heavy you travel. This is included in your entry fee. You can camp in your pit area if you choose.
You can reserve camping at Cross Bar Ranch if spaces are still available, or choose from the selection of hotels or casinos near Davis, Oklahoma. Another option is Turner Falls, near the park.
Click HERE to visit Cross Bar Ranch for camping information
Click HERE to visit Turner Falls. Turner Falls will also be hosting a concert and laser light show on Friday and Saturday night. While not directly affiliated with the Ultra4 schedule of events, it will be a great time for spectators and crew alike.
Spectator tickets are also available for purchase online. Spectator tickets can be purchased HERE(If on a mobile device, you may need to scroll DOWN to see the Nationals ticket reservation instead of the General Admission park ticket purchase button.)
Driver and Co-Drivers will NOT need to purchase entry to the park. That is covered in your entry fee if you have pre-registered. Pit Crew member can either pre-order online HERE, or they can pay $20 at the gate and an additional $5 at the registration desk (as usual) for their Pit Crew Band and USAC insurance.
In an effort to reduce contact during registration, we do encourage you and your crew to purchase online as much as possible.
As with our other races in 2020, we would like to remind our racers, vendors and spectators, to put safety first, take responsibility for your own actions and treat others with respect. Please wash your hands often, cover your face and minimize direct, physical contact as much as possible throughout the event and most importantly stay/go home if you are sick.
Temperature checks and a COVID-19 waiver and health declarations will be administered at the front gate by the park as a component of their COVID-19 mitigation and safety plan.
Other COVID-19 precautions include the following event protocols:
Use hand sanitizer and wash hands oftenPlease stay home and enjoy the event online if you are considered at high riskLeave no trace and pack out your trashAvoid touching the face
Safety is always first, in the car and out of the car. We will be doing our part as an Ultra4 team, including temp checks. Please plan to do yours.
If you have not already ordered, please pre-order your VP Racing Fuel ahead of time by using the normal order link: CLICK HERE TO ORDER

    Important Crandon and AOP Announcements

Racing, as does life, prepares you for anything and everything.

In the spirit of communicating early with the most current information available, we have two announcements to make:

The first is that, unfortunately the Crandon Spring Race has been cancelled.

The second, is that we have been in contact with the track owners and have been assured that the 4WP Tear Down in Tennessee (July 24 – 25) is on!

Online registration has been closed for Crandon and drivers who registered in advance will be hearing from Dave personally. We are all very disappointed but wanted to share information as quickly as possible. As with any race, this is another obstacle to overcome and keep on racing.

Registration is now open for the 4WP Tear Down in Tennessee.

In an effort to reduce physical contact and adhere to state and local guidelines we will be encouraging online pre-registration for drivers and teams. Spectators will be able to purchase tickets online and attendance may be limited to allow for adequate social distancing. We will offer online tickets to drivers and teams first before opening it up to spectators.

The 4WP Tear Down in Tennessee WILL be broadcast live on the web and all classes will be covered. This will be an official Ultra4 points race that counts towards Nitto National Championship points. • Luke McMillin Conquers 2020 BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400

Luke McMillin Conquers 2020 BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400

32 years after his father Mark first triumphed in the Great American Off-Road Race, Luke McMillin added his name to the illustrious list of overall winners of the BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 with a victory on Saturday night. McMillin and co-driver Jason Duncan took the lead on the final lap of the race to score the win with an unofficial time of 6:49:52, collecting a $15,000 prize from event organizers and $25,000 contingency bonus from BFGoodrich Tires.

“I can’t believe it!” said Luke McMillin. “We worked so hard. This truck, we built it in 2014, and I can’t believe we just won the Mint 400. That’s badass!”

“This means a lot,” added Mint 400 CEO Matt Martelli. “The McMillin family has been in off-road racing for generations, and here they are again, not only winning the biggest and baddest off-road race, but arguably the hardest, being that we were four laps and 428 miles this year.”

The action was intense and unpredictable throughout the day, as what looked to be a decisive victory for Concrete Motorsports ended in heartbreak with a head gasket failure. With the extensive lead that Harley Letner had built no longer in play, the race looked to come down to the Unlimited Trucks of Ryan Arciero, McMillin, and Bryce Menzies, who started the fourth lap within seconds of one another and maintained those positions up to the FOX Proving Grounds.

When Arciero suffered a flat tire with the victory in his sights, McMillin inherited the top spot, and never looked back on the way to his first Mint 400 victory. It was the fourth victory for the McMillin off-road racing dynasty, as cousin Andy McMillin also took top honors in both 2009 and 2014. Meanwhile, Menzies also got around Arciero for second across the finish line.

Full results from the 2020 BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 will be made available after the conclusion of the event. For up to date information on this year’s event, and to livestream the action, visit themint400.com or follow @themint400 on social media.

Off-Road Racing Community ‘Takes out the Trash’ ahead of MINT 400 Race

    • The BFGoodrich MINT 400 race and Republic Services will host a desert cleanup Feb. 29
    • Event has removed more than 140,000 pounds of trash from the desert over multiple years
    • BFGoodrich helps in the cleanup and rewards volunteers with a chance to win tires

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 24, 2020 ― Hundreds of off-road racing fans will show their appreciation for the Mojave Desert on Saturday, Feb. 29, by cleaning up tons of trash illegally dumped near the MINT 400 race course before the race even begins.

The BFGoodrich MINT 400, known as the Great American Off-Road Race, and Republic Services, a waste solutions company, have made an annual tradition of cleaning up the desert before the race.

Republic Services is providing large dumpsters and hauling out the collected waste. BFGoodrich, the title sponsor of the race and leading tire brand in off-road racing, has joined in the effort by providing employee volunteers and a set of tires to raffle off to volunteers after the event.

The MINT 400 runs through the picturesque Mojave Desert south of Las Vegas. Most of the land is open to the public and managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Unfortunately, many of these public lands become dumping grounds in the months before and after the race, with everything from furniture, large appliances and even vehicles illegally discarded.

“BFGoodrich has called the desert home for more than 40 years,” said Harold Phillips, global general manager for BFGoodrich Tires. “Desert racing has served as a real-world R&D laboratory for the brand, resulting in the toughest off-road tires in the market today. Supporting the cleanup is a natural fit for a brand that has a love of the desert found in its DNA.”

If you’re in the Las Vegas area and want to join BFGoodrich Tires, Republic Services, the MINT 400, and hundreds of volunteers clean up the desert on Saturday, register at themint400.com/donttrashthedesert/.
