I no engineer, but I would think that portal axles create more leverage or twisting force( rotational leverage ) on the axle. Hence more separation need. JMHO

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I can't see that plate helping much as the cracked plate and the two affected bolt holes are beyond the added plate. please explain;)
Jessy's fix literally ties the upper bolt hole to what looks to be 3/8" bracing.

Everyone's need are deterrent. some want a longer trailer so they can use it for more than hauling there Buggy. A longer trailer is more stable at speed !!

A bit late to the party but definitely want a selectably or open for the rear for best control. It would be better to spool the front and use locking hub for street use.
I don't know Blazer's, But I do know you want the lowest lift & biggest tire you can fit ( today's 37s are 40s ) Dana 60 front and 14 bolt or sterling rear.
Move the front axle forward and do a lot of cutting to make the big tires fit. big lifts to fit big tires is old school.

Side by sides and ATV do need better mufflers. I am a avid off roader but I don't like how loud the side x sides are. 🤷♂️
