2014-King-of-the-Motos.jpg February 1, 2014 (Johnson Valley, CA) – The 2014 King of the Motos Presented by Trail Tech officially begins today in Johnson Valley, California. The event, dubbed the toughest extreme enduro in the United States will combine open desert racing with the punishing rock climbs and decents the Hammers trails are known for. This year marks the third edition of the race and kicks off the entire week of Griffin King of the Hammers Presented by Nitto.

FORMAT:

This year’s King of the Motos format will begin with on Saturday, February 1st on a close course beginning and finishing in Hammertown. Starting order for Sunday’s race will be determined by Saturday’s qualifying times, with the fastest qualifiers starting first.

Sunday’s race will be a two-part event. The morning will feature riders starting two at a time in a 40 mile high speed section. Those riders that finish Sunday morning’s stage in the allotted time will have a brief period to work on their bikes before starting the Sunday afternoon stage. Sunday afternoon competitors will leave the line in a land rush start and race 40 miles of brutal rocky terrain. This year’s race features 3 classes: Pros, Sportsman and Team riders.

WATCH FOR RETURNING KINGS:
Cody Webb
2013 King of Motos champ Cody Webb returns to the roster in 2014. Webb, 25, from Watsonville, CA, is a three-time X Games medalist, who is studying mechanical engineering at San Jose State.

Graham Jarvis
Britain’s Graham Jarvis won the inaugural race in 2012 and is considered one of the greatest extreme enduro riders of all time. He is a five-time British Trials Champion, four-time Scottish Six Days champ, nine-time Scott trial winner, thee-time Hells Gate winner (2011,2012,2013), three-time Tough One winner (2011-2013), and 2013 Erzberg winner.

In 2013, Webb took Jarvis down in an exciting elbow-to-elbow battle that lasted a grueling five hours. When Jarvis suffered a mechanical failure before the finish, Webb claimed the crown. Watch the two battle again in 2014.
