IDAHO - BLM Travel Planning Begins in Shoshone Area
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Shoshone Field Office is beginning the development of a travel management plan (TMP) for all BLM-managed public land north of Highway 20 within the Shoshone Field Office. The western edge of the planning area is bounded by Chimney Creek and the east by the Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve/Fish Creek.
A TMP is a comprehensive approach to travel and transportation planning for a wide variety of uses including uses for recreational, traditional, authorized, commercial, educational and other purposes. It also includes all forms of motorized and non-motorized access or use, such as foot, pack stock or animal-assisted travel, mountain bike, off-highway vehicle and other forms of transportation.
This effort expands upon the Blaine County Commissioners Recreation and Travel Plan recommendations for the Wood River Valley and will address summer and winter travel.
If you are interested in participating or learning more about the TMP process, there will be a series of open house meetings held at the following locations:
August 22, 4:30 - 7:30 PM Hailey, Community Campus, 1050 Fox Acres Rd., Room 301 & 302 August 24, 2011, 4:30 - 7:30 PM Twin Falls, LaQuinta Hotel, 539 Poleline Rd. August 29, 4:30 - 7:30 PM Fairfield, Camas County Senior and Community Center, 129 West Willow Ave. August 30, 5:30 - 8:30 PM Carey, BLM Carey Fire Guard Station, 20550 N. Main St.
If you are unable to attend one of the open house meetings, a scoping package and associated maps will be available at http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/fo/shoshone/north_highway_20_travel.html. Hard copies of the scoping package and maps will also be available at the BLM Field Offices in Shoshone, Burley and Twin Falls.
Comments are welcome throughout the planning process; however, it is most helpful if your comment is received by October 14, 2011. Meaningful comments are used to help formulate alternatives and ensure issues are addressed. Please submit any comments or additional information you may have. Please remember to use the comment sheet.
The BLM is interested in your comments on the following:
Off-highway vehicle (OHV) area designations (open, limited and closed) Proposed individual route designations and closures Winter seasonal motorized restriction areas
